Hey, i got the required books, what the hell am i going to use to study for this class, i have 2 huge books already. I am also getting the BRS, should i be reading the actual book that looks like a reference (aka Moore) to me, or should i focus on the review texts. Are the lectures complete? Later all, see you soon...I am already sick of this snow, we are snowed in...at least we have internet right?

LOL... well, I never read any text book. However, from what I remember (I just finished 5th, so it was 3 semesters ago) I only needed the Physio BRS for the RENAL part. I didn't think that the professors explained renal physio as well as the other topics so I needed (and so did several other students) to use the BRS for the RENAL section. Other than that, physio was fairly self explanatory with the lecture power points. I didn't need to read Guyton, BUT the Guyton was a good read and probably the BEST text book (it's the only one that I kept from Basic Sciences). I read like 2 paragraphs and realized that it was more information than I will ever need in my lifetime.

Ok Val, we're opposites in the study department.
I read Guyton and hardly used the BRS for physio. I'm a textbook reader though (heck, I'm reading Big Robbins! Oy!)
A lot of people found STARS helpful too - it's Saunders Text and Review Series.

How do you find time to read the book and look at the slides?

Hey Shadi,
BRS+ Star's are probably the best books to study for physio. However take into account:
1. Dr. Stuart's sections (Block 1 and 2): his notes are more sufficient. BRS explains some of the cardio concepts really well.
2. Dr. Kurtev's sections (rest of physio): As you will find like most students his slides are packed with tremendous amt of info. which is all nice if physio was the only course u had for second semester and u had ample time to study. He teached the hardest section in physio, RENAL.and BRS is the best for renal.
3. for the shelf exam BRS is the way to go. however I also found first aid very useful as well as the Kaplan physio review book.
4.There are few other books in the library that are pretty helpful, just go skim through some of them to see if they suit ur studying style.
so bottom line is get used to reading the BRS, b/c it will help u with the course stuff as well as the shelf.
hope this helps.

(p.s if i havent mention guyton, it is for a reason, I found it worthless and an incredibly BORING read :)

Thanks Jeff.
Adnan, keep in mind that the blocks each professor teaches changes from semester to semester, depending on when Kurtev is on the island. It might be the same this coming semester, it might be totally shaken up - you never know.
I found with Kurtev, however, that his questions came straight from Guyton. Boring read? Heck yes! But when it came test time I found myself answering questions a great majority of the class missed.
Alas and alak, as always, each must find his/her own study method. Mine works for me. :D
