Hello,
I am a 1st semester and found the books on amazon. Is it better to get them before going? For me cheaper is better, so I found some like new books...you think thats okay or should I go with the new?
Also the ones I found are all soft cover...is that what it should be?
Finally, is it worth it to get the optional books?
Thanks!!!!

I found all my books for first semester on half.com; cheap and used. I brought them down. not everyone does this because that takes away from your carry on weight or luggage weight. as long as the books you get are the right edition, what you got should be fine.

I used ebooks.com and A1books.com and brought them down ans saved quite a bit of money I did the same this semester.

about the optional books it depends on you....if i could do my book purchasing over again for 1st semster than i personally would only buy the netters and BRS for anatomy and biochem....but i do know alot of people who used alot of the optional books and they said it helped them greatly....
anyways you can always buy some of my 1st optional books.....than you dont have to carry them down with ya...

Is the BRS for biochem and anatomy something I should invest in? Do a lot of students use these?
Thanks

Yeah I gotta agree with Netter's and BRS as stated above. Along with the Benchmarks (which you'll be given) and class notes, you should be fine for Anatomy. One optional book is the Color Atlas by Rohen. I used it in the first few weeks of school to get a good bearing on drawings vs. real stuff. After the 2nd test though, I got the hang of it and didn't need to use it. Lab time is key.
Also get Lippincott's Biochem book, 3rd ed. It is a quick review of everything you'll be taught in class. It's just a review book which will suffice along w/ lecture notes, but if you like explanations and something more detailed, you may want to consider purchasing a full text.

for biochem, you could probably get by with the old 2nd edition book. I used it last semester (fall) and found it to be just fine. You can find the 2nd editions for free down here. The book will give you needed clarification on the notes every once in awhile.
IMO, to be efficient, you need to just stick with the lecture notes, because thats where your test questions are going to come from (at least in biochem, not so much in anatomy).

Things may have changed but the only book that I really used was my Biochemistry Book and Netters. Netters can be loaned from the library usually...the biochem you should buy.
Most of my books are shelf-bound and I wish I would have sold them as they are basically worthless and out of date now except for my path and physio books (Guyton). Maybe you should purchase 1st semester books and then try to buy the second semester's books from the finishing class and sell them until they fall apart. A used book reads just like a new one.

Normal as process....
Seriously, contact MEIO and see if they can get one out to you ASAP, or look around on the forum as most booklists seem to find their way on VMD eventually.
Good luck!

Hello,
So, I did a search for the 2nd semester booklist, but I cannot find it posted anywhere...and I have indeed left it on the island.
Could someone be so kind as to post it, or direct me to where it was already posted (authors n all).
Thank you, thank you, thank you :)
