Usually people ask is such and such school better than Saba or something to that effect. But what I would like to know is if a person gets accepted into St.G's, Ross or Saba, what makes Saba a better choice given the following circumstances:
1. Person knows they want to specialize and wants to maximize changes of matching at an university program
2. Person is relatively young (25), single, no kids, relatively debt free prior to med school
3. Wants to get the best education, but at the same time wants to get their money's worth.
4. Has a desire to practice either in the NE or the south (def. not Texas..hehehh).
I have looked at the match list for the past years on Saba's website, and I will admit that the list is in fact very impressive. Not only are the majority of the students doing their residencies at univ. affiliated hospitals but they are matching in relatively competitive fields (e.g. EM, neurology, or anesthesia) and of course, those who are matching for IM always have the option subspecialing, which is what many Saba grads have done.

SO I guess the bottom line is, will I be at a disadvantage by going to Saba versus Ross/St.G's?

I wouldn't say you would be at a disadvantage. Saba isn't as well known as some of the other schools like St. G's and Ross and AUC, but it has an outstanding track record (like you said) that matches the others pretty well. Saba isn't as cozy of an island as some of the others since the island is small and the cod economy isn't really booming right now  . It isn't as if you'd be seeing a McD's coming anytime soon, but if you're one of the types of people who needs to have little to no distraction to achieve lofty goals, then the island would be ideal for you.

So basically you need to determine if living on a tiny island that's not the Superpower like the US would help you focus on school more than living on an island with a beach (I mean a real one).

The rest of the questions you ask can only be determined by your scores on the USMLE since the programs you mentioned can almost all get you into a university program.

Hope it helps. (Personally, I need less distraction to focus.)

I agree with classic. Also, in my humble opinion, here is why one might choose Saba given the list you made:
1. Saba is way cheaper than the other schools you mentioned. This means more money in your pocket instead of a banks.
2. Saba has it's own uniquely friendly atmosphere....the other schools appear more competitive/cut-throat.

Just callin' em as I see 'em -W

Thanks. I have a mild case of adult ADHD, so the less distractions the better. Also I'm def. not a beach person. We'll see what happens. Thanks again.
