Hi,
I am coming from Canada. I would like to get your idea about the school.
Is it worth coming and studying there or wait and apply for North American Med-school another?

How is the quality of classes, Island, Labs, prof ( lifestyle ).....
Do you guys enjoy being out there?

Thanks,
Rico :P

Hi and thanks for checking out AUC forum. I am about to start my 5th semester at AUC next January. Yes. It has been very much worthy of pursuing medical education at AUC. The school challenges us to the bone and flesh and when you go home for winterbreak, you are changed person forever mentally and even physically. When you are on the flight back home after one year and a half like my recent trip, you would know that you begin to see the world and people at totally different spectrum and dimension. The education here get to the very soul of yourself and allows you to find yourself within. Yes I would have to say that it is worth of doing it. I have no regret and happier than when I came here as a nerveous rookie first year student.

The shcool facility such as labs and study lounge as well as the library are plenty and well equipped and the professors are well experienced. some of them are not so good but most of them are good yet hard.

my only regret is that I could have done it a few years earlier rather than trying two different graduate schools-one was graduate shcool of chemistry in doctoral program and one was chiriopractic school- to find my destiny. The struggles to find that destiny has been placed on rest ever since I finished my 4th semester and I look forward to the future ahead. I am thinking of cardiology......

The times on island here can gets not so pleasand at times with frequent water shut off and power black out-AUC has own power generator so it is nice- and some practical jokes in dealing with car lease, drivers, construction crew that placed large boulders right on the middle of the road and it crippled some cars and local people But in overall, Saint maarten's living environment is as best as it can gets. I can Bike to the two different beaches 5 minites from my apartment by the campus. However, I feel I am in heaven right now as I came home in the Colorado where the roads are nice and even and the stores with starbucks. There is no such place like home...

Good luck and let us know if you have more questions :-smileys

looking back at the last 5 semesters i really didn't realize the effort that the admin puts in to making the school better. i took for granted the introduction of shelf exams, kaplan, etc...i even complained about having h&p during 5th because it cut into kaplan time but now that i am doing q bank questions and the nbme questions i realize that the school and the profs gave me everything i need in terms of support, facilities, labs, internet, library...even h&p class which we all unanimously hated proved to be very usefull in terms of the stuff dr model taught specialy murmurs.

i think that this is probably as good or close to as it could get in a foreign school. the down side is that they charge a ton but you get a lot out of it and probably three classes out of 5 semesters need attention.

other than that i have been very satisfied with the school. as for clinicals my experience so far has also been very posityive. they answer emails within 24 hours, a lot of times in less than half hour.

so as far as basic science it has been a good experience. if anything in clinicals sucks i'l post it, i start rotations in february.....

If you have a good shot at US schools and are willing to wait it out.. I'd do it. I wasn't willing or had the grades so I ended up here with all the other rejects(I mean that in the nicest way possible).

I haven't regretted it since... except for the lack of Starbucks or Barnes and Noble.
