I know AUC advertises that English is understood everywhere on the island, but what do most of the locals speak as their native tongue? French? Dutch? I've heard there is a lot of Spanish. Have any of you picked up the languages?
Are the residents Europeans who moved to St. Maarten, or are they more like the other Caribbean islands, with European, African, and Native cultures mixed together?

Lucy and the gang speak Spanish at BB's. You'll hear a lot of French on the French side. I just hear English down on the Dutch side.
Speros and Loukas were always plotting in Greek.
Chimi and Magda were always conversing in Polish.
