The federation of state medical boards is reviewing carib medical schools. They are doing this for a total of 7 states, OH, NC, etc... If spartan loses this time, it will be finito.. Because this will be like a domino effect. You lose these 7 in a row and and the rest of the states follow. Spartan better have a serious plan for impressing the FSMB!!!!
I know that a lot of you guys, students and alumni alike, think that you can just blow all of this stuff off. But if you are not careful, it will bite you in the you know where. We have some really impressive grads that have been around for a long time and we have a lot more students at Spartan than ever before. Generally speaking, ****** has not done a good job of impressing anyone but hopefully, everything will work out. -s&a

I can't imagine that the Spartan ownership would let this school fall apart, roll over and die. What a waste of what could have been a good investment. I would like to know what they are doing to prepare for the FSMB?? Maybe they have some kind of trick up their sleeve?? Or maybe they are just in denial?? Probably, they are in denial... -s&a

the fsmb has neither the time nor the resources to do the extensive evaluations that will be required. they will be following the accredidation process of certain regional bodies. the regional body here (including 17 countries extending from belize to grenada) is CARICOM. i believe they will be reporting their findings in april 2005 or so.
they are prepared for whats coming, because some schools have already been evaluated, and the dr. hernandez knows whats going on. that doesn't mean that serious improvements don't need to be made, but i think they'll get by on this one.

wcb22,
You seem to know a lot about this subject, can you explain your findings or give us links to learning more about the process??? -s&a

i was relaying the information from someone who knows people on the committee. i was told that Grace would not be around much longer (2 months ago) b/c they (caricom) were doing on-site evaluations. well, they are under now. not to say that this was the main reason, but perhaps a contributing factor.
i was told basically what we already know. the FSMB is giving regional bodies the go-ahead to evaluate schools based on certain criteria. all schools in that body (for us CARICOM is that evaluating body, for which 17 countries are being evaluated, extending from belize to grenada, not including AUC for some reason i do not know). they will be reporting their findings some time next year (april?). i was told that this will weed out some schools that aren't fit to be called medical schools (such as grace). CAHSU will be fine i am told... they did just aquire a new building in addition to the one they own already. i don't know about the other schools (i.e., there's a new school called "hope school of medicine" that just popped up). anyway, from what i've heard, belize has been evaluated, others are on the way. wish i knew more.
