Do any of you who currently go to AUC have an concerns about how difficult it might be to get a residency later? I got into AUC last year but had to defer my acceptance a year due to family issues.. now my parents have got all these worries that if I go to AUC I will have a ton of dept and possibly may not get a residency because I'm at a Carribean school.

All depends on what you want and how well you perform. If you barley pass your classes and score a 183 on the Step I then you should be able to get a family medicine residnecy but that neuro surg or dermatolgy residency might be outta reach.
Now if you do well in your classes, make a 255 on step one and are sleeping with the wife of the head of the Dermatology department then you got a shot at derm.
Seriouly, if you pass with decent grades adn go after a relistic residnecy you should have no problem getting in, might not be the hospital you want but you will most lileky be able to find a program willing to take you.
For information on residency spots (how many unfilled/filled and filled by FMG) go to WWW.Scutwork.com

I figured, if Dr. Durst(who looks like Buzz Lightyear or a monkey when I first joined valuemd) can get a residency and a good job, why not me?!
Just look at the residency placement list. There are some fairly competitive residencies there!!! Neurosurgery, Anthesiology, EM, etc.

there are countless alumni that have got into good residencies. each year we receive the match list for the AUC grads and they are not all in FP.

First of all, it's medical school, you are gonna have tons of debt whether you go to a state school, a Caribbean school or, Joe Bob's School of Medicine and Hair Care. Secondly, if you do come down here, they will bring in plenty of doctors to make sure that rumor of not getting a residency is really not even in your mind anymore (including a pediatric immunologist and the head of a pediatric ER both from Iowa). Bottom line is this, if they have accepted you an no one else has, you have an opportunity to come down here and become a physician. I am not sorry about my decision at all, and yes, I do have tons of debt, and a wife, and a daughter and another child on the way, so don't worry about the money. It will get paid off.

Oh, it is....trust me. I got a christmas bonus that is sweeeeeeet.
As said above, it really depends on what it is you what to do. Medicine, family practice, psych, etc. are easy. Surgery is doable, if you have some decent board scores. People get competative residencies like OB, ER, radiology. There is no shortage of residency spots for grads. G
