Just wanted to inform all the new incoming students and current students:

Marshall Motors, who used to be a good rental place for cars, is continuing their new ways of hassling and cheating students out of their deposits. A good number from the outgoing 5th semester class have tried to get their deposits back and cant. A reason for them not refunding the money is that they are leasing cars out to students with no warranties, so if something like the a/c or transmission fails on the car, it falls on the student.

Please be aware of this company. There are other, smaller, companies on the island if you choose to lease a car while you are here.

better yet.......... the amount of money that you will spend at that ripoff place is equivalent to buying a $6000 car.

there are plenty of great cars on the island that you can buy for less than 6 grand. plus you make some of the money back when you sell it.

i bought an atos prime for $4000. im gonna sell it at the end for $2000 so its like im only paying $100 a month.

dont rent from marshall because they will make you pay $300 a month for a overly used atos that doesnt even have power steering.

there are plenty of car rental places on the island that sell their old fleet for reasonable prices. so in the end you would have a decent car and get some money back when you sell it.

I returned my car on Thursday and my entire deposit was returned. As long as your car is NOT damaged, you will get your deposit back with no problem.

try to lease only brand new or near new car which I did. I got a brand new atos that jsut rolled out of the factory with stickers on the windshied with nothing goes wrong so far.

Refuse older model or go to some other company if they dont have new cars.

Actually, they did this to others with brand new Atos'(eg. Mitch). It has more to do with their management than the cars themselves. They were billing on minor dings and paint scratches..... FOR A 20 MONTH LEASE!!!!

i would recommend buying a cheap car. there are a couple of more in my class that did not get their deposit back from marshall motors because of "dents" under" the car... i guess the speed bumps and pot holes are left for a reason.

when they are told that they will lose business because of their poor service, they respond by saying that students have no other option but to lease from them.

I for one would recommend buying or finding another place to lease. Maybe the french side might be an option.

good luck

With that kind of attitude no wonder. Leases generally do not make good on anything regarding reimbursement for body damage - leases are only good for dealerships. Buy cheap and not new - I mean honestly it's only 20 months! no one will question you're rides' pimpness here.

There are a couple of people around campus that fix cars well enough to get from point a to point b to warrant not leasing a car from marshall. With the crap that place pulsl and the stick up their butts to boot I don't think it will take long to plummet those lease earnings. I came from a pretty slimy dealing dealership in orlando and I'm still suprised from time to time with the things I hear from marshall.

It reminds me of IDL cable vs. Caribserve with the whole "there's more where you came from" mindset.

Not true, and we'll definitely try to show them.

AUC is no longer allowing Marshall Motors to advertise on campus, and for the upcoming orientation, we will be encouraging students to find other potential lease contracts.

The attitude and blatant lack of service and respect for the AUC community (which also includes the outgoing Dean) will no longer be tolerated. Tell your friends. There are other options if you look hard enough.

I agree with Scott...buy your own car. You'll spend a bit more in the initial investment, however you should be able to recover a majority of that versus getting nothing back on a lease. Just MHO.

Perhaps the drunks of 1st semester can be coaxed (with alcoholic beverages) to egg the marshall motors complex?

Failing eggs, throw them instead... ??
