hi all i have 2 points i would like to suggest
i have been reading this forum for a while and there are 2 issues that are really bugging me. one is about how students (there has been thousands that have gone thru AUC so I assume thousands who have gotten shafted) who get scr#wed by their apartment managers over the security deposit, because the student has to leave and they don't have to legally give it back within 40 days anyways (or something like that), so basically the managers run down the clock.
the other issue is about not enough clinical spots in the states, getting them ON TIME, and especially for us southerners, having southern clinical sites (ATL would be fine by me).
i know during the first few days, there is orientation and some sort of SGA meeting.
Why don't we, the entering first semester students, as well as later semester students, bring these points up during the general body meeting:
1. why can't AUC or the SGA represent the departing students, acting as their advocate, between the student and the apartment manager, in order to get the deposit back for those students who SHOULD get it back (i.e. didn't do anything bad to the apartment), since the student has to go back and doesn't have time to mess with this mickey mouse stuff, and has no practical legal recourse at that point, once they have moved back to the states? obviously these apartment managers take advantage of this situation, and it would be great if this chunk of change is recovered thru AUC/SGA or even people at the Spouse's Club, if they were willing. Every bit of money helps the struggling med student to help ends meet, especially those with families.
2. ask in an open forum on this issue of having clinicals available ON TIME in the states for the students about to enter clinicals, especially southern sites. It seems when i ask this question individually (i have asked a few officials at AUC) i just get vague and quite non-committal answers. AUC has been around more than long enough and should have resolved this issue long ago. from all i have read and asked and talked with people, it seems you may have to wait quite a bit of time in order to get usa clinicals, and so one of the reasons why some may opt for going to europe and getting it over with (i know, others go because they want to go to europe, i'm not talking about them).
anyone have any thoughts on this?
