There is no doubt in my mind that SPARTAN is GOOD.As GOOD as it can get.I have spoken to people who matter, and they have all pointed to one thing----Spartan is a WINNER disguised as a looser.

The only thing left for Spartan to be officially termed a Awesome school is NY & CA certification. So how to get it without having to wait for the school management?

Step 1-Let all present Spartanites form a Student Union and form a students's commitee for CA & NY approval.

Step 2-Let us donate $2000/- each .This money that we will donate will go a long way for us, it is worth every cent. This will be a total sum of anything between 150,000 to 200000 US dollars.

Step 3-Then let us call the school management in front of the UNION(with all members present) and say-"Here's the money, go get CA & NY"
We have everything that SABA has and our Alumini is the one of the best on earth.

This is just a idea...Now I call all the better & more qualified Spartanites to take away from here.Lets get CA & NY guys.WE CAN DO IT.

Good gesture JBOND but the things must be done is as follow:
Hire retired depat heads from the USA in Anatomy,Physiology,Biochemistry, clinical medicine,..,get clinical dean from the USA,
update the school website[it lists less than 20% of grads],list all the award winning MD's and all the schools they attended.
If you suggest people forming Student/Alumni org then Spartan has lets say minimum of 300 practicing MD,300 students, and 100 residents total at least 700 people, everyone will contribute since if they don't they might not have future, so $1500 each multiply by 700 people total over $$$1 million dollars....
this process can be done by special lawyer[a lawyer who was the general counsel for major state board who knows the laws well].Regardless what route they take, approvals must be done.

Forget to mention:I also suggest the school gives up 1 yr profit and contribute 1 million dollar[with 2 millions you can get anything].

Make sure that the school has everything that CA and NY look for. This includes things like how well stocked the library is with texts and journals, internet facilities, the quality of faculty, the quality of clinical sites etc. G

If we were to give the Spartan administration 200,000 dollars, they would pocket the money and say, "Ok, guys, we will work on it and thank you for the extra cash..."

If it was only a matter money, the administration could easily raise the tuition just by 200$ and from a total of about 300 students per semester, that would be 60,000$ per semester, which is 180,000$ per year, but it isn't about the money, its about the work and ****** and friends, do NOT want to do the work.. They are very content with 30 students per class, they do not care for 50 or 60 students per class, because that means more work for them and these people are extremely lazy...

This is sad, very very sad, but this is the way it is at Spartan... They do not like change because change means work...

However, there is a way that these people can be shaken up and that is if the SGA (Student Government Association) becomes a unified force and the students take over the school and they start dictating to the administration what they want...

Here is the problem jbonds, the sga is a business... They take care of the school store, computers, cafeteria, school buses, etc And they are SUPPOSE to represent the students but they do very little standing up to the administration... Generally speaking, the people that join the SGA kiss the behind of the Spartan administration...

The SGA is bogged down kissing the behind and working the Spartan business... This is the major problem. Now, what can the students do in order to have more power over their school.

1- Start by creating a sub-division of the SGA that handles the business aspect. For example, elect trusted officials to the "store" the "computer lab" etc.. You can give them titles. This way the SGA will have more free time to handle the politics of Spartan, such as licensure and staffords, etc...

2- Elect a "Quality Assurance Representative". His/her job will be to report such things as for example, the students, currently, do NOT evaluate the teachers... Some teachers suck.. Very well, the students can make up their own evaluations and distribute them and they can gather the feedbacks.. A copy can be sent to the Spartan administration and another copy can be sent to the individual professor. This would be an excellent way for the students to voice their concerns and the professors and Adminstration to listen. They could even give awards at the end of the semester for the best teacher, "Professor of the Year" award...

3- The school newspaper, the so-called "Heartbeat". Needs to be used by the students to voice their concerns and it should not be edited by the school.. The students can publish what they wish and they do not have to place their names on the articles.

4- When ****** comes to town, the SGA should bombard him with licensure questions. I would tell him, "We would like to know what you are doing to get CA and NY, what you plan on doing, what have you done.." Otherwise, the whole SGA should just walk out and do not let him do his little dance. The couple of days that ****** comes to Spartan, the whole school can just take those days off.. Let him stare at the wall for a while... Maybe something will click in his head.

The students can do a lot, but first and foremost, they need to stand together as a unified voice. You only have those 4 semesters that you are together in St. Lucia because after that, you leave and you will all be fragmented.

During those 4 semesters you can get a lot done. About fearing the administration. They have zero power in the outside world. They are sub-zero help when it comes to getting residency, they are completely useless, all of us that got our residencies, got them on our own... And in regard to rotations, that is entirely based on your board scores... In fact, you can apply to the various hospitals without even consulting with the school. The hospitals themselves approve your rotations and Spartan signs the paper work and they always sign because it is a business and they want the money.

But jbonds, you bring up a good idea about Spartanites putting money togther... I just wouldn't give the money to the school because, like all carib schools, they are all very corrupt. That money could be used when say, a spartanite is unable to get licensed in someplace, like wherever, say Alabama and the money could be used to sue the boards and make it so that all Spartanites can always get licensed.

You will see that the Spartan administration does fold under pressure and the more pressure the more they give in. As students, we failed to put the pressure on and that was because most of us were uneducated about such things as state licensures.

Most of us thought that CA was impossible, so who cares... But Saba proved us all wrong. In those days, there was no such thing as the Courant article and the Federation did not even know that Spartan existed... Everything was under the radar.

Yet although we knew that our administration was weak and incompetent, we didn't care because we were paying the least amount of money and getting our residencies in some of the top USA programs. I would not have traded Spartan for any school. But those days are gone. Now, the times have changed drastically and these carib. schools are under a lot of scrutiny. Soon it will be survival of the fittest and Spartan better be ready for the challenge, otherwise, it will be their last dance...

In regard to their alumni.. I really do not know how they produce so many success stories, such as the ones ZAATARI has posted??? But I do believe that it has something to do with Spartan giving a chance to people that would not otherwise have a chance to be doctors and with the spirit of these Spartan students and alumni. Its just really impressive and amazing. -s&a
