Prelude:
My mind is already made up to go Spartan.

The problem
But at the back of my mind I have the following fears:
A)The so called April report##(see below) will "indict" a bunch of Carribean schools viz.(starting from the worst to the better ones)-

The worst ones sure to be indicted in the report for one reason or another,with the worst ones starting from the left to right-IUHS,IUA,Windsor,SJSM,St Martinus,XUSOM,AUA;

The next Tier-Spartan,St Eustatius,MUA[honestly Mua & St Eustatius are good schools but since they are new they may be under the scanner]

What to do?-the line of action for a Spartanite
In case Spartan gets "named in the report" that some medical boards are
going to publish inApril,05(may be later), what should a Spartan student do?

To all Spartanites-I have no malice against Spartan-actually I think it is a great school-except that my perception of Spartan does not decide what people & press write about it.So my apologies in advance to anyone who will be offended because of my post.

regards
jbonds(not my real name)

##The report is described very aptly below by Zatari(Thank you Zaatari,Sir),I have copied & pasted from his post:-
Zaatari wrote:
"I think what jbond refering to is the Federation of state medical boards Spring meeting in April[they formed a committe to review the standards of education in the carribean schools] and such new committe will give the 7 states adpoted the proposal [NC,OH,OK,KY,...]the recommendations on how to deal with applications from certain schools and the new guidlines and rules to be adpoted for certain schools as public policies."

There is no "April Report", if you are refering to the supposed expose by Time magazine. It's just a stupid rumor. I even talked to one of the editors of Time magazine myself....there is no article forth coming.

Are you referring to something else, or has the rumor not yet died?

Oh, okay.

Forgive me for asking, but why attend Spartan if the risk is that great? Was it impossible to attend AUC or Ross or one of the other schools that may be less likely to be "indicted" for some reason? I probably would have gone to MUA if I had not been accepted to Saba, so I'm not putting anyone down, I'm just curious.

Nope, could not get into Ross, or the big 4.How about some scenarios about what a Spartanite can do if the report is negative on Spartan?Come on Wolfgang lets get some solutions....

Well, many of the "easier" states like Louisiana and Maryland will probably need MDs bad enough that they won't necessarily stick to the FSMB's recommendations. The #1 thing that favors IMGs is the shortage of physicians, especially in rural areas. So I don't see them cutting out Spartan grads altogether, especially if you do good on the USMLE and aren't an ogre during rotations. It's time honored tradition to sue if you get a good education at your foreign med school, but the state medical board won't grant you a license for some esoteric reason. I think it often comes down to a judge's interpretation of carte blanc licensure legislation.

How about getting a job in research, but I admit I don't know much about that, I've only heard that some people never practice, but go to work for pharmaceutical companies.
If worst came to worst, there is working as a physician in another country...but probably not a country as nice as the USA.

And then there is teaching.
I know of a person who had licensure troubles in Texas after graduating from Saba. He got kicked out of his residency in Texas because he was an IMG and Texas had suddenly got tough on IMGs. He ended up teaching science at a community college for a little while, until he got licensed in another state.

None of these gigs would probably compensate as well as being a practicing physician, but they might beat diggin' ditches or flippin' burgers (I've done both :p )

If you have medical license in good standing but unable to practice the best option is to work as clinical care coordinator with insurance co like united heathcare reviewing medical claims ,it pays about $150.000/yr,I did work in foreign country and its nice tax free life style,I recommend the American hospital of Dubai[check their website[[$120.00/yr tax free, house free,....]very modern city,Harvard just opened clinic in Dubai medical city. Also check website helen zeigler[UAE recruiter]for all the western run hospitals filled mainly by North American MD's.I did work for the Royal family hospital and enjoyed it very well [much better ob than any job here in the USA,but my kids getting older and I want them to be here in the USA for college].
