I do not see MUA-Belize in the 7th edition. Is it going to be in upcoming edition?

Medical University of the Americas in Belize is not new, we have been open since January 2002 as a branch campus of the school in Nevis until obtaining our own charter in August 2003. Since August 2003, we have operated under our own charter and the students started to take their USMLE under the Belize campus directly.
WHO only publishes their book every 10 or so years so we will be in the 8th edition which I believe is scheduled to come out in 2007. Until then, you can find us on the FAIMER site.

Belize living....
Accomodations can range from $300 and up, depending on how much you want to pay. We have had a student that stayed at a hotel for one semester, and he paid $600 a month plus electricity. That was also during the slow season on the island. Most people live by themselves, but there are two students who are rooming together. It is your choice. Come early to explore your options. Most places require that you pay for all of the utilities such as cable, water, and electricity. Out of the three, electricity is the most expensive, and it depends on you use the AC.

Food/restaurants: if you like to cook, one can get most of the foods here. If there are certain spices that you desire, then bring them down from the states, canada,.... If you don't like to cook, there are a variety of restaurants to choose from the very expensive to the very cheap.

Water: it's safe to drink, but it's very salty if it's well water. Most of us order water from the crystal water distribution. It's $5 for one 5 gallon. There is a deposit to pay, but it's returned to you at the end. You can order any of the coke products in variety of sizes, beer, fruit juices,.... all require a deposit plus payment of the product(s) that you purchase.

transportation: most students own bicycles, others have golf carts, and others walk to campus. It's your preference.

Currency: all places except for the banks... it's $1US=$2Belize; you can open an account with a bank, but you must have a letter from your local bank, and a letter from the academics dean, and your passport. Or you can just open an account with Milo's exchange where he keeps your money safe, no interest. It's basically like a safe deposit box. Many students do this. There are atms here on the island, but remember that you will receive the island currency.

If there are any specifics, please feel free to contact me at atgtaz@hotmail.com. Thank you... Have a GREAT day! :)

The airlines that come here: American and Continental; I have heard that Delta is trying to come here, but do not know if they have been successful.

That will bring you to Belize City; once you have arrived to belize city, you will go through immigration, please have your admission letter ready to show the officer along with your passport. You will have to go through the customs, and they can be nice or mean, depending on the mood that they are in. There is a big lady that is always tough on the student. Just smile, state that you are a student.... all things are used. Take everything out of their packages; nothing should have the appearance of new.

You can choose one of two local airlines: Tropic Air or Maya Air. Let them know that you are a medical student; show them your admissions letter if necessary. Being a student, you will receive a 10% discount. The flight is 15-20minutes; These are the small planes.

There always seems to be a lot of questions about 'how' to get to Belize.

Below are the current flights that come into Belize. Once you arrive at the International Airport, you will take a 'jump flight' with either Tropic Air or Maya Island Air - 15 minutes to the island. Pretty convenient.
