Hi guys...
I am glad that there are some clinical subjects being discussed on here, its encouraging I would say :)!
I was wondering if any of you guys know anything about Huron hospital in Cleveland... I am heading there next week to start my 12 week surgery rotation, and I have no idea what to expect (just like anything else at Ross :)!)... Also if anybody is looking for housing there, please let me know I found a good deal on a two bedroom house worth sharing...
Take care and thanks for your help...

I was an early student rotating back in 1990 and did IM and Surgery 15 weeks apiece. No other students around but me and two fourth year case western students. So I acted like an Intern took care of my patients verbal ordered everything. My own personal sub I. Everyone was nice friendly supportive. Good teaching start in July then you are on par with Interns. I did med surg (Huron) ob peds then sub I then psyche just before boards to be able to study. I am from detroit and cleveland was close enough to commute on some weekends. At that time residency was not an option in Ohio. Cleveland is fun city and not too big. Ob I did at Sinai with all Case students I blew them away in basic medical science but was humble and grateful they let share their rotation. I lied and said I wanted ob/gyn so they let me in.

Huron has been affiliated witht he cleveland clinic since 1997... I am assuming this will change a little of how the rotation is run... but thanks for the info, I appreciate it...
I am just trying to get an idea as to what to expect... This is my first rotation after Miami and it is in Surgery... I am kind of a little anxious about it... thats all...
thanks for the help... if anybody else knows anything about Huron, I would love to hear from you!

Hello.
I just finished there in September. There was a student with us as her first rotation and she did well. Its a great rotation. I describe it as serious and formal. The residents are strict but they want you to learn. There is a basic science discusion once a week on thursdays. And the students orally participate with the residents. You will learn a lot as far as managing patients. I felt like i was ready to start a residency when i left. You rotate 2 weeks through SICU. This is where you present your ICU patient to the team every morning. By the time you are done with ICU, youll know how to present a patient. The residents are very patient and will help you. They leave no student behind. The director of the program is a Harvord grad and spent a great deal of his career with cleveland clinic. He practically invented the endoscope. Hence great letter of recomendation. As far as studying goes, surgical recall is a good book. Also there is a mini swartz which is great for the basic science. Oh and morning rounds start at 5:30am, yes its early. But the call schedule is Q5 :). If you are considering surgery for a career you picked a good rotation. A lot of the residents including the chief are Ross grads. Well if you have specific questions dont hesitate to ask. Oh by the way i talked to a friend that is there right now finishing and he said he learned more in this rotation than any other rotation he has had. And he is going on 4th year. My advice is be confindent. If you want a good grade know your patients well, be on time every day and participate especially in rounds, ask questions etc. This got me an A. Take care and good luck.

The housing list at the hospital is pretty good.
