fam pract and medicine SUCKED at wyckoff, at least it used to as of 4 or 5 yrs ago.

IM- all scut, all u do are H&Ps over and over again. it got to the point where the students wouldnt even see the pt while wriitng the h&p, theyde just make up the history (im talking 10-12 in a day). the rest of teh day was spent checking labs, running own to get x rays (the teams werent happy with the results from the radiologist, they wanted to actually LOOK at the xray, even though most of the residents had no idea what they were looking at, they were only trying to impress the attendings). grand rounds were okay, sometimes good lectures. the smartest student on our rotation would just call in sick and spend time in manhattan with his girlfirend. he learned the same amount we did-jack squat. complete waste of time.

FP- decent outpatient clinic work, try to get the full 6 weeks as outpt. if youre screwed with inpatient, then all u do is the above, except worse, u actually have to stay overnight for calls (or 24 hrs for a weekend day), which again were worthless.

pretty sad since most of your step 2 and 3 will be int medicine or primary care. hopefully theyve changed for the better, they both needed vast improvement.

I've got a few friends there now & most of what they tell me about Wyckoff goes along the lines of what suktinder stated above. IM is weak but they also say Family is better than IM and is more like an IM rotation than a Family rotation.

Anyone interested in a fairly solid IM rotation, check out Mt. Vernon. I did my rotation there. The attendings, residents are wonderful. The only drawback is the number of medical students. When I started, there were about 10 of us, when I finished there were atleast 20, which means less pt work for the student....but I do think the chief resident was working on spreading out the students in different areas. Didactics were excellent.
