hello,

ive read some of your posts on here and also on something called network54.

so in short i know ill be flamed for having the word "scrub" in my handle, i know the island is referred to as "the rock", it is to be despised and that my only goal is to get out in the next 16 months fully prepared to score well on step I.

yes, you guessed it i am beginning in january 2005. though ive got to say ever since the last week when i found these two forums, ive been %^&ing bricks and getting worried about leaving a good career behind. but since i personally know two recent grads i think i am going to strike it out.

so now to the main question- what do i really absolutely need to bring with me besides clean clothes, an open mind, a resolute will and cheap texts (if i can find any).

and oh yeah, is anyone coming from chicago?

thanks.

I'm in the middle of professional school at the moment.. and i don't know if i should give it up for Ross Jan 05.. I am debating about finishing it and then attend med later.. For sure I would have earned half as much money by 2020 if graduating from Ross on time 2009 with smooth residency internal med.. this is b/c the Ross debt would be too high, and the partly b/c the other degree would allow me to start my job at around $90k+ and i would grad in 2007.. I do want to be a doctor, but i'm thinking maybe i should apply for a much lower cost U.S. school after finishing what i'm already in the middle of, and re take the mcat.. cuz after this program, MCAT would seem easy.. if anyone has any insight to my situation, please don't hesitate.

It is a tough decision, but i have to disagree with you. My bestfriend is in her 3rd year in pharmacy school, taking pretty hard courses with a 3.5 gpa. However, when she took the mcat, she did badly, after studying 3 months for it. The mcat does not so much test scientific memorizations and knowledge, it tests critical thinking. No level of professional school can prepare you for verbal reasoning (you have to study independently for it). Another thing you would have to consider is; are you planning to use both degrees, is it really worth the additional debt

thats my 2 cents

scrub-
bring down barrels of food, anything and everything you can
no matter how much it will cost, it will be well worth it when you see the selection you have on the island

a lot of pharmacy students are relying on memorization and regurgitation.. I don't blame her for doing poorly on her retake.. I'm afraid it may be the situation for me too later on when i do retake it.. i only took it once during my undergrad got only 25, and my gpa was low, so i just gave up and worked.. anyway, the debt is what worries me too.. that's why it's so tough for me to decide.. I would owe about 190k graduating from Ross, and in addition to my current debt, along with interest in 15 years or more, i would owe probably around $400k or more.. Would be nice to get a chance to specialize so there would be a bigger paycheck.. well, i may have miscalculated.. still got a few days to think about.. I understand being a doctor should not be about the money, but that would be selfish of me to put this debt upon myself and family.
Can anyone give an estimate of the USMLE scores that would satisfy a fellowship in cardiology/radiology coming from Ross?

Scrubalicious:

Take a look at the "UPDATED RUSM Frequently Asked Questions" subject. It should be able to help you to decide what to bring.

Also, does anyone know if water filters are available in the dominica or does do you have to bring them down if you want to use them?

Then just go to Saba. What is th difference really when both schools will give you the same options (except Cali which should change) at half the tuition. Both islands kind of suck too so just save your money. Ross is going up 8% too so add on another 10G at the end.
