Hi folks
Finally I took step1 today(in our time is actually yesterday!).was very similar to many other exams which I had read as experiences on this board.More dominant pathology, pathophysiology and physiology.majority of physiology Qs presented as a graph that probably u won't find in any review book and just if u get the concept in depth u can answer them. Many CV,Res,renal physiology.Pharmacology ,I got a lot of experimental studies on dif drugs, know ANS pharmacology well(Katzung-trevor),other parts of pharmacology werenot tough(more on DOC and MOA and a few on side effects).renin angiotensin sys had a lot of Qs on exam which I was surprised,I can say on each block I got some Qs on this topic.Anatomy, around 5-6 Qs /block more on gross anatomy, some on neuro and just 2-3 on emryo.Neuro Qs more on CT and angio and section but werenot that difficult(I didn't answer well to those but I expected worse).Anatomy Qs were mainly on typical nerve lesions and their motor and sensory innervation.Micro ,more on bacteria and viruses than about fungi or parasites, not very difficult.**,mainly on Dr-patient relationship then on ethics,0ne on infant development,2-3 personality dis, some DSM4 ,.... I got lots of ** Qs ,I can say about 7-10 on each block.Biochemistry, both Qs on dis like glycogen storage,mucopolysach..,lysosomal storage dis which I answered them so poor because I couldn't review them close to exam,,also Qs on enzymes mainly on regulatory and rate limiting enzymes of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis and.... I got considerable number of biochem Qs.
Mol bio ,not very weired, mainly on transcription and translation processes.Genetic,I got 7-8 Qs on genetic totaly that werenot easy but I did well ! on some of them just u should knew the pattern of inheritance(I mean for example a clinical case of a dis and then ask about the pattern of inheritance w/o any pedigree!),also some pedigree, one maternal mitochondrial inheritance, one Q about imprinting!,...
Immunology, just a few Qs,mainly asking some unfamiliar and experimental Qs about some basic concepts, one about IL2 and one or 2 about immunodef dis.
About study materials: Plz at first consider those which r proper for u,I mean u should choose the materials based on ur time,ur backgrounds,ur weakpoints,,,, there isnot any unique prescription for all.But also there r some good and known resources. What I did ,I studied about 4 months fulltime in back home mainly A ranked books(not all of them) then I had an interupt(preparing to come to US and the first months of arrival),again I started this time mainly with kaplan notes and I studied about 6 months(totally 10 months)while I work.I got off last week of exam.I tried to take Q bank and doing it's Qs two times!!! but I couldn't!! the first time I could just finish about 30% of it and in second time(close to exam)I just took **,pharmaco and some of the genetics, mol bio patho, totally less than 500 Qs!! Also I got some whole blocks to evaluate myself.I got 74% on usmle CD about 3months before the exam, about 68% on second block of usmle CD about 1.5 month before the exam and 80% about one month before(If I don't mix the times up).2 weeks before the exam I got around 80% on Qbank.Totally I didn't take many Qs,mainly I emphasised on review instead of doing Qs,if u wanna rely on doing Qs then I suggest u to take many many many Qs,,I mean take one of these 2:1-manily doing review with a few Qs to be familiar to how u can apply ur knowlege on QS 2-if u wanna rely on Qs instead of review then u should do a lot of them like Qbook,Qbank,BSS,.... I used dif books for preparation that will be a boring and long list if I wanna mention them and I think u know most of them. But totally I can say kaplan notes r the best and if u know them completely, for sure u can pass with a very good score(I didn't read all of them).
Regarding time and overall difficulty of Qs :like many other test takers,I got 2 block with simple Qs and 2 blocks full of experimental and odd Qs,the other 3 blocks were on average,in general time isnot a big issue,on that 2 difficult blocks I could not review my marked Qs,in other blocks I had enough time to review all marked Qs easily.U know this isnot a predictable exam,I mean I expect to pass but I don't know anything more regarding to my score.
Any q welcome.
I got many things of this forum,I wanna thank all of u and I remember some names,Orbit, regulator,ME,Wiz,saima,FAN,Karren,Kerr i,U,Lamia,alina,genir,mle2003,ra,knicknacks,doctap eppa, saili, uuu, nasdaf,BHAI,spongebob,NIB,monztree, CA,tachycardia,Fatima, nice girl, sonia, kateryna, daniel, savisam,sq,sergey,am,je ff,Nilesh,David, delna, taro bapp,magdel,911,usmleplaya,moveon,img94,SoftEngr,s eason!!,Bhutta, usmlebank, lizzie, all viruses on forum!, and many others whose names r not in my mind right now,plz excuse me if forgot to mention ur name.
