View Full Version : What is the hardest semester at Ross?
I would say first because it is really hard to get used to this island.

I thought first had a ton of information until I started 2nd. Second has way more info than first. I bet 3rd and 4th are worse.

I'm currently in 3rd semester. It is a lot more material that 1st or 2nd. But you're not in the anatomy lab, so you smell less like cadaver and you can spend the extra time studying. Also the material is "doctor stuff" and you actually get some clinical experience which is pretty cool. I heard that 4th semester is a #@$%; but only time will tell. Guess its all relative in that respect.

I think the hardest semester is the semester that you are in, and the easiest is one you've already done.

i would assume that the difficulty of the first semester would somehow coirrulate not only with the adapability to living in Dominica but also to what your college major was and how long the span is between when you graduated college and when you started Ross. For my son first semester was the easiest because he just graduated college and he was a biology major. The dificult subject in 2nd semester was Anatomy which also required alot of extra lab hours. Pathology was difficult in 3rd and 4th has ICM which seems to be as bad as Anatomy judged by marks on the first MIni.
Hopes this bit of info helps.

I agree 2-1-3-4 increasing difficulty.
I guess no semester is really hard...but there is a lot more content and less time to study in 4th semester.
same here, in order of increasing difficulty, 2-1-3-4.

I think that first was the hardest, at least for me. On top of getting used to the island, I had to get used to the level of intensity and basically learn how to be a good student. I was also a bio major straight from undergrad, but that didn't really make a difference. I found that things got easier as I went along just because I was more able to deal with things.

The “hardest” semester depends a lot on what your background is. For instance-someone with a lot of clinical exposure might find 3rd and 4th easier than 1st and 2nd. They’re probably all challenging for different reasons.
1st sem: you have to adjust to living here and re-learn some study habits and break old bad ones.
2nd sem: you have to spend a lot of time in lab-dissection can be time consuming.
3rd sem: you spend a lot of time in class and get a huge amount of material thrown at you to digest.
4th sem: a lot of lecture hours combined with a lot of integration. Put ICM practice and hospital visits on top and you are pressed for time.
Even though I found that I was pressed for time, I frequently went to the beach and went hiking. It actually helped me budget my time a lot better when I sat down to work. Spent a lot less time taking breaks, etc. and found that my grades improved. So-do study, but try to remain sane while trying to tackle whatever semester you’re in.
