Hi everyone,

I am attending Ross in Jan. 2005. Could you tell me how much the books for the first semester are if you purchase it from the company that the university uses, and have them delivered to Ross. Also do you have to pay for the books right away or are you able to wait until you get the money from loans?

You could always buy books off of other students who are leaving.

Doc, typically at the beginning and end of every semester, other students, from all semesters, sell their books at pretty cheap prices, but you gotta be quick ‘cause they go fast. Don't quote me on this one, but I think that if you order your books through the bookstore, which has no affiliation to the school as it is a private venture and just leases the space from the school, the books usually tend to be here for when you arrive, depending on when you ordered them. I think you have to be aware though that the books and other stuff at the bookstore are much more expensive than if you bought them in the U.S., which stands to reason because they have to offset the cost of shipping and make a profit too. You can bring them in from home, but remember, you also have to think about airline wt. restrictions and room for the other things that you’ll be bringing. So each option has a caveat.

I bought my books from islandthrift.com. A spouse on the island, Lindsey runs it. You can buy online ahead of time or when you get to the island. It was a great way to save $$$$$$$

Thanks for the responses. I had another question. Which of the items do we need for first semester from the equipment list. Like BP kit, stethoscope, hammers, microscope etc. Do we really need all this stuff for first semester or could I hold off on buying it?
