I hardly ever write on this forum any more but i could not resist but comment on this topic.
SMU's best decision after relocating to the Cayman's was to hire Peter Rogers. He is an incredible teacher as well as person. I actually enjoy going to class because of him. I love this guy.
You should never believe anything you read but trust me when i say that the entire class will speak on his behalf.
He is great and if SMU does not keep him then many students to come will be short handed for not having been taught by such an excellent person. I taped his lecture and gave it to my sister who is also into teaching to give her an idea of how diffrent styles of teaching effect students. Aside from my sister i also showed his lecture to some other friends in the teaching profession, from elementary, undergraduate, to graduate professors. They all agree that he has a wonderful method of teaching and after speaking to a number of students it is indeed effective.
He is EXCELLENT and i do hope smu keeps him for the long run. If not once i am successful and become a physician I will hire him to help me.
SMU if anyone reads this .. KEEP THIS GUY.. you will benefit in the long run.. if his asking price is too high just give him whatever he asks it will defenetly be worth it.

I couldn't agree with you more! Dr. Rogers has an amazing style of teaching and really seems to get across to students! Many have already frogotten about the "old" Histo/Embryo Prof.
He is a definite asset to the SMU factulty.

AMAZED
Ask anyone at AUC....ANYONE. Dr. Rogers was the laughing stock of the school. His bizarre tangents, his ramblings in half french, and his inability to write a proper exam are but a few examples of his gross incompetence. Not only was he demoted to "bone room manager", he also tied for worst teacher in the school. Nobody has learned a thing from him and it is ironic that he is your best teacher. Maybe things have changed. Or maybe your standards are that much lower.......
Welcome to reality.

Just a difference of opions . . . .
However, there are many of us here at SMU that believe Dr. Rogers' is a better professor than the previous Histo/Embryo Prof.

Your right, here at SMU are standards are low and we settle for incompetent professors... I am sure at AUC every professor is over qualified and so this guy was insulting your intelligence

Even if I am not in Dr. Roger’s class, I can say that I am hearing good things about him. However, the statement and I quote: "He is great and if SMU does not keep him then many students to come will be short handed for not having been taught by such an excellent person". We don't know that because we don't know if the next person to come would be better than Dr. Rogers. This does not mean that he is not and exceptional teacher. It would be good to keep Dr. Rogers for all the good reasons, but let us be careful about how we say what we say. For example, if Dr. Rogers can't stay, how should the incoming students feel about a new professor, should they feel short handed? That is something they would not be able to measure. I guess what I am trying to say is, praise Dr. Rogers and keep him if you could, but don't cast any shadow of deficiency for any incoming student. The administration will always make the best selection of professors for the future of every student. And if you don't believe that, than just think about it this way - It was the administration that selected Dr. Rogers in the first place.
Good luck.

I don't generally post because I don't really feel the need to, but in this instance I do. I don't believe that this message board is meant to insult one school over another; ie commenting on whether or not SMU's standards are higher or lower than AUC. I do think Dr. Roger's is a good professor, his teaching style may be unconventional but it is effective and it requires a student to take initiative and do some proactive learning. Also just because a number of students say that Dr Roger's is the best professor they have does not mean he is the best that SMU has. I hope you all keep in mind that there are a number of professors at SMU that alot of students have not had the pleasure of dealing with because of their semester status. I would appreciate it in the future if as a whole the university was not judged and slammed by individuals who do not attend or do not know the sublties of our fine institution, it has its faults but find me a university that doesn't.

like i said when we had him for embryo he was ok but ran out of time and he is as personable person as you are gonna run into. however as time went on i don't know what happened but all the students in his class did not like it, he missed some for various reasons maybe that affected him i don't know but he was demoted and his three histo lectures he gave us were ramblings i thought it was lack of time to prepare though.
either way that is what happened here not over there so maybe he will be better off there and will flourish there. my advice to all of you though is to read BRS alongside whatver he is doing because he spends way too much time on factors, genes control mechanisms, etc and not enough time on structures and development as evidenced by my surprise at not having seen 70% of the material on USMLE embryo questions. and that has nothing to do with bashing or anything like that just some friendly advice from someone who had his class and is now preparing for step 1.
