Hello All,

I'm considering going to medical school in Romania. I have looked at most of the english programs in medicine at most of the Romanian medical schools but, still I am unsure which is the best. Which ONE would be best in helping me to return to the US to practice medicine. Any information or insite would be greatly appreciatted. thanx.

I would exhaust my attempts in Czech, Poland and Hungary first...then try Romania. Unfortunately, there's not much info I've seen about them. There may be some good schools there..but their track record of English programs may be short. proceed with caution.. 8)

Well first of all do you know the romanian language?I just finished school there and my biggest problem was the fact that my Romanian was not up to par.The school itself is very good but life there is not nearly as easy as it is here.If you don't know anybody there you will have a miserable time registering for the school, finding a place to live, etc. If you have the option to go here,it will be more expensive but at least down the road it will be easier. Also remember in Romania school is 6 years not 4.If you have any more questions feel free to email me at dr_colin@walla.com

I finished medical school in romania. I have one thing to tell you: don't go there!!!! Try to go to mexico or whatever, but if you go to romania you will be miserable. Not only that you will have to bribe the teachers, assistants, etc at EVERY EXAM, but they will give you low grades, even if you study until you drop dead. My actual husband came to study in romania and he had a horrible experience there, paying all the exams even though he was studying so hard!! And above all, you will learn ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Everything is so diferent !!!! It's been one year now since we've graduated and we still strugle to take the USMLE exams, and we had to study all the subjects from scratch. I was an A student there, but here is like I'm nothing. That's how different everything is!!!

cheap, very cheap -tuition fees $3600 per annum; thats equivalent to almost £1800 (I dont think you will find any instituition in europe that is cheaper than that) at the current exchange rate, possibility of them joining EU in 2007, english medical courses available etc. I still havent made up my final decision as to wether I am going to end up there yet; I am hoping to visit the universities concerned first and chat with the students and then we will see how it goes on from there. By the way My aim is not to work in US, I am planning to stay and work in UK hopefully if all goes well.

You can find cheaper. I thought Germany was free if you could speak German. Also, there are other cheaper schools in Russia.

Russia is out of the question because they are not in the EU and the chance of them being accepted in EU in the future is almost zero.
With germany the problem is that all their programmes are in german and hence you have to be able to speak the language in order for your application to be considered, and so it looks like we are back to square one.
