I'm starting SMU in Jan 2005. I was wondering whether you guys at SMU wished you would have done something before starting school, to got ahead in studies. Did you guys get the textbooks and start studying before? If so, which books would you recommend to get ahead?
Anything of that academic sort.
I know this is the time we should be travelling and all that. But I don't wanna arrive at SMU wishing I should have prepared a bit.

get baby Moore clinical anatomy isbn# 0781759404
and just start reading Head/neck section, there is alot of info, so just start off with anatomy, u will spend the most time studying for that, dont worry about embryo and histology for now, just concentrate on anatomy.
this book is like a bible, its a compact version of clinical anatomy by moore, but its got better diagrams and is not full of unnecessary details. if u get done with head/neck before u get here, then ull be straight, trust me, i wish i would read it before i came, but dont stress it, ull be fine
good luck

take a USMLE step 1 prep course BEFORE starting, then refer to the notes during the basic science course

whoa
why doesnt he just go and take step 2 and 3 as well :)
Thats a bit too much info before you start, and there's so many courses integrated in USMLE Step 1, It would be just plain stupid to take that course, without even taking the courses. Remember Kaplan is Review, so in order to take a review course, you have to take the actual course, so I will disagree there.
So if you want, just read some anatomy, but if not, then its cool, you'll be just fine, just get some sleep, get ready for those 3 hours of sleep days

Gebbils, I agreed with you. Study as much anatomy as you can, and get the moore book and the brs...

moore is useless, only use it as a reference. instead use the BRS with a Netters, with Snell for reference (which i like alot more then Moore).
prepping in Anat is def the way to go
