Hi...i am currently a 4th year student of SMU and am scheduled to graduate by may 2005, but was in high hopes to be able to practice in California...because of the recent delay in the school's approval...i'm not even sure if i should attempt the 2005 match (i don't mind if residency isn't in Cali but I would really want to practice there in the end)
what do you guys think? should i suck it up and grab anything i can get? should i just wait it out...what could i do in between if i decide to wait for the 2006 match...delay graduation, is that possible? i have used up all my leave of absences
opinions, suggestions, answers pls!!

Hello everyone,
I was doing some digging and found out, as you know, that SMU isn't licensed in California. However, I guess it's in the works. Anyhow, I was refered to this webpage that lists all schools that are licensed in California. You can keep checking back at this page for progress I suppose. I sure hope SMU gets accredited in California being that I want to practice in New Mexico. Anyhow, best of luck, hope this helps.

Thanks for the link.
All of us from Cali are anxiously waiting for the day to come when SMU gains CA approval! Looks pretty positive so far!

Here's my reply on the same topic in the Main forum...
The issue is not when you enter MATCH. It's when you officially GRADUATE!!!
If the eventual approval is retroactive, and you graduate in 2005, BEFORE your school's approval, it really DOESN'T MATTER what year you choose to match in. If the approval is retroactive, you will be able to come back to California to practice... The only difference is whether or not you do your residency in California (which, in the big picture, is really insignificant)
On the other hand, if the approval is NOT retroactive and you graduate in 2005, it really doesn't matter if you sit out till 2006 (or whenever your school gets approved) for match -- you will NOT be able to practice in California EVER in this case because you GRADUATED before the approval date.
So, it's the graduation date that counts. Not when you match.
