Hi:
I am presently a US student studying medicine in Mexico. I am very interested in transferring to Spartan for two primary reasons: 1) The time required in Mexico before you can start your residency in the US is 6 years, whereas Spartan is around 3-4 years; 2) I need to be able to work (I am an ICU nurse) while attending school. Doing clinical in Juarez would allow me to work in El Paso.

I hope that I would transfer into the 3rd semester, which would mean that I would have 2 more semesters on St Lucia. My question is this: I have heard that Spartan's basic science classes are offered in blocks. For example, Micro may be offered for a 6-8 week block and not for the entire length of the semester. Can anyone confirm this for me?

If this is true, do you think I would be able to come to St Lucia for one of these blocks, take classes for 6 or so weeks, return to the US and work for a couple of months, return to St Lucia and take classes, return to the US to work, ect, ect, until I finished the basic sciences? Once I got past the basic sciences and started doing my clinicals in Juarez, then I could go full time in Juarez and work on the weekends and evenings in El Paso.

Any feedback on this plan as to the feasibility from any past or present Spartan students would be appreciated. Thanks, GCM
