What kind of food do we have at SABA. Do we have chinese or other country food. Do we have carter service or mostly we need to cook. Thanks

On the rock, there is a Chinese place (and Japanese?? not sure). There's a pizza place, and some all around places with hamburgers/steaks/ hotdogs?. There are no ovens in the dorms, so if you're there first semester, you'll be eating out or at the cafeteria. I was wondering what type of cereal the grocery stores have on the island. I know they don't have any peanut butter granola bars on the island, but they do have granola bars (which is a good thing in my opinion). We should investigate this further howard. you should look into SXM for more food options. We have a few fairly big supermarkets(like Safeway, or Albertsons). SXM also has a Cost-U-Less which is a smaller version of Costco or Sam's club that will ship to Saba and other island(not sure how much extra though).

Okay, for dining out there's plenty of options. In the stores you also have your basic frozen junk that will pack on the pounds like you're a bear about to go into hibernation. Cereal - plenty of selection, no issues there. When the boat comes there's usually yogurt and milk and cheese and all of that great stuff that builds bones and is the **** of the lactose intolerant. It also brings fresh fruit and veggies. Fruit juice, sodas, plenty of alcohol to select from (that's one thing on this island that's cheap). Snack foods (refer up to the pound-package comment), canned foods.... Granted it's not the select you'd have at home, and the stores are tiny, but let me just say that my roommate (who's currently in first semester) was shocked at what was available in the stores. Oh yeah, and Pop-tarts - the staple of many a student (proud to say I'm not one of those...)

As for ordering from St. Maarten, I've done it a couple of times. Sometimes that's a hit-and-miss deal too. plus right now the usual boat, The *****, is down for repairs, so other boats are bringing stuff and I know that people had ordered some frozen food that spoiled. Perhaps when that's up and running again then ordering that stuff from across the pond will once again be an option. In the mean time have no fear - we usually have a good selection. (I say usually because if there is bad weather the boat doesn't come and there's no fresh stuff, just what's in the storerooms.)

Okay, I'm set. :lol: I absolutely need the fortified vitamins and minerals in a sugar coated package, and the lactobacillus I'll need for a healthy flora in my intestines. Life is so much better with bacteria :P , and thiamine is so much better when it's sugar coated in the form of Lucky Charms and Fruity Pebbles :wink:

Okay, just an aside, but does everyone know that the Vols kicked Georgia's bootie this weekend. I promised Bamaguy I wouldn't PM him about those stats unless UT made it to a bowl game. But I just want everyone to know I'm a part of the Big Orange fan club.
