SABA vs UAG(Guad., Mexico)

Im a chiro in tx, been in practice for two years and decided to get a broader scope.

I've been accepted for Jan 05, but am considering UAG/ Guadalajara.
Our doctor that delivered our new little girl(two months old) graduated from UAG. From what I've looked at they're not having as hard a time getting licensed in tx. But you have a five year committment instead of 40 months in carrib. But you are fluent in spanish after graduating from UAG. If anyone has had to make that decision or knows someone that has I would love some feedback.

I considered UAG before coming to Saba. The cost of living is relatively low and the tuition at UAG isn't too bad - they have Stafford's too. I wanted to expose my family to the culture of Mexico and improve my Spanish.

A few drawbacks to UAG are:

The remarkably complex admissions process. Even though they "streamlined" it a couple of years back, I'm not sure I could possibly get my Eighth Grade transcript (the guy on the phone told me it wasn't "absolutely necessary", but, if not, why do they ask for it?).

The "inscription fee" that must be paid right after the interview (I can't remember if it's $1,000 or $3,000).

Clinical rotations aren't terribly strong. Even though they have their own hospital (HAL), students have told me that they really don't like students dealing with the patients - sort of like "observership" clinicals.

The cost of the Fifth Pathway year makes the fairly reasonable tuition less reasonable.

A relatively subjective drawback is the somewhat restrictive culture of the school (men aren't allowed to have beards, etc.) and - from what a few students have told me - a feeling of distrust between the administration and the "North American" students.


Big Pluses are:

Over 8,000 grads practicing in the US (more than most US schools!) and the doors they can open for you.

The real University atmosphere. People from many parts of the world studying in about 80 different programs.

The city of Guadalajara- Everybody I've talked to says it is beautiful and the cost of living is very reasonable.



Most of my info is a couple of years old, so I would suggest you try to get in touch with some current UAG students to find out what things are like now.

I think UAG is a fine school. It just wasn't right for me.
