hi,
can anyone tell me whether the 4 year MD degrees from Poland would allow graduates to practice in the UK without sitting the PLAB exam or not? i know the 6 year program graduates don't have to sit the PLAB, just wondering about the 4 year program.
thanks in advance.

Hobogumm,
That's not quite the case. See http://www.gmc-uk.org/register/map.htm and http://www.gmc-uk.org/register/accession/poland.htm
For the six year program, it depends on your citizenship. If you have EU citizenship (or nationality rights) and you have received your degree in Poland, you should be exempt from the PLAB.
The catch with the four year program is the following (from the second link):
"Please be aware that if you have undertaken some or all of your basic medical training outside of Poland , or if that training was of less than six years’ duration, we may need you to send us further information and documents. We will let you know if this is the case once we have assessed your application."
If I were you, I would contact them directly and ask them about this.

Gerry,
Overall, it is a good article. However, the information regarding EU accession countries is a little dated.
The latest info can be received directly from the GMC.

The GMC said that when it comes to registering with them one would have to get a letter from the University confirming that the course complies with directive 23 of the European directive, after which they would consider registering one as a doctor. Without that letter then one would have to sit the PLAB.
Anyone know what Directive 23 is? Do you guys reckon Poznan's course complies with this directive? I will ask them myself but I'm not so sure how trustworthy they are with their answers, might just say anything you want to hear.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know. I've tried researching other EU directives in the past and have been unable to get any useful information from the EU website.
Perhaps you can let us know if you find out.
