I agree with the poster on the official SGU board. We need to start a list of students who we have NOT had contact with so we can send it to SGU officials. We can post the info here and it will be saved, not moved down the list until no one can access it anymore.

i am in contact with bayshore to see if i can get a list of folks they've spoken with. they're in meeting but ill try to speak to them later. To answer a question from earlier, no role was taken at the noon meeting in grenada because of the general disorganization. this as per bay shore.

as per my last phone call (just off) US department of state hasn't agreed yet to go down and sgu is trying to charter planes on their own. If anyone has political connections, use them to get to the State department. If anyone has connections with the British offices, consider discussions with them as although Grenada is a soverign nation, there are affiliated with the british and it would be easier to get them there I suspect.

****** is in meetings about this all day and the staff is manning the phones at bayshore 24 hours.

As per bayshore, there is so far no word that any sgu person is hurt, or missing. However until a formal list is up, obviously we wont know for sure. So parents, hang in there, right now everyone who's gotten through to the school says ther eis no one missing. lets go with that until we hear otherwise. They are compiling a list of students/faculty who've signed in at the msot recent meeting. thoguhts to you all.

To those students who made it out of Grenada:
Perhaps you could jot down a listing of the students you have seen after the storm to allay the fears of the many concerned family members out there until Saint George's gets their list ready.

Subject: * Heard from Daughter! Arrangements Underway to Come Home

Message: We just heard from our daughter. She called from US Embassy in Grenada. Told us they are safe, have food and water. Administration has worked out arrangement with Air Liat to fly students to Barbados or Trinidad. From their, they will be on their own to make flght arrangements. First priority is families, next women, and finally mail students.

Our daughter gave few numbers of people in her group to call in US. We are doing that right now. Outgoing cell phones are not working because there is no money left on cards, while incoming calls can go through on a very few cell phones. We were told that the next group member will inform their contact in USA those cell phone numbers they think are working for receiving incoming calls.

I know it is hard for parents who have not heard from their children, but I can tell you that my daughter is representing other students on the campus in conveying that they are safe and have food and water.

Stephew:

As a Ross parent I have been very impressed by what you have been doing to help both the current parents and students at St. George. My son would have been in third semester if he had chosen to go there so I my heart goes out to all the parents sitting at home wondering how their children are doing.

Its unfornunate that the US government spends more time dealing with the Iraq situation then with the students in Grenada. Maybe if the regulatory authorities would allow the expansion of current US medical schools and allowing addional Medical schools to be built in the US we as parents wouldn't have to send our loved ones to unstable third world islands.

Again my prayers are with all the students and the hope that they all get home safelyand are able to continue their dream of becoming a Doctor.

Message: My cousin Michael Hansen is a 2nd semester student at SGU and he just called me. He said they are going to board charter flights from Grenada to Barbados and Trinidad. From there they will fly to their respective homes. He hopes to be home in 2 to 3 days. He actually seemed to be more concerned about how the Boston Red Sox were doing than his situation there which seemed to reassure me that the worst is over there.

Subject: * VET STUDENTS HEARD FROM

Message: My son Travis Thurman (2nd semester vet student living off campus) contacted me this morning ( about 9:00 AM CA time) saying he is fine as are the other 13 students with him. Their first names are James, Elias, April, Brianna, Stacy, Emily, Marsha, Rick, Gordon, Erin, Adrea, Lauren and Laura. They have been staying off campus in Trav's apartment. I told them to move to campus ASAP and stay there for further news on evacuations. Apparently they all want to leave and have been attending all the on campus meetings but have been frustrated with decisions on what to do. Travis will call back either tonight or in the AM. He has a friend near the school with a working phone but he didn't have the number. You can call me (Jan) at (661)342-5552 if you have any further questions.

Message: I just got off the phone with my daughter. Conditions are uncomfortable, but very safe. They have plenty of food and there is electricity to boil water. In her words, "nothing life threatening". She told me she just smells a little. This we can deal with. The school is planning to evacuate families first, then women, then men. They are expecting to go to Barbadoes where the students can get flights home. Hopefully planes will starting taking off tonight.
