I was just wondering if the medical schools will let prospective students visit the gross anatomy labs. I want to be a doctor but I'm afraid that gross anatomy might make me sick because of the smell. Does anyone know if I would be able to visit a lab just to get a feel for how it will be. Strong smells give me a headache, and make me sick to my stomach so I want to see if I will be able to handle it. I don't get grossed out easily, I just get terrible headaches from strong smells like perfume (but vomit doesn't make me sick) and cologne. Any advice, or does anyone know if other people got sick from gross anatomy lab?

Call the nearest med school and ask them if you can arrange a tour. I think most schools would be open to it. If you can't, I wouldn't worry too much. In my class of 56 nobody vomited and only one woman fainted (she was otherwise ill). In my time here, watching five classes start Gross Lab (around 250 students), I've only seen one person faint and one person who just couldn't handle the whole scene (he dropped out after two tries at the class).
Try to get a local school to let you drop by. If you can just get on campus somewhere, I'm sure an accomodating first semester student would give you a quick tour.
Best of Luck!
