Does anyone know how much usa citizens who are enrolled in foriegn MD programs have to pay in order to do their clinical rotations in the usa? i understand that we'll have to pay a weekly fee for rotations?

if you're an IMG would you please give me guidance on how to budget for the clinical years. if you're not an IMG but you have info &/or ideas please share them.

thanks everyone.

Well, that depends on your program.

Some programs (for instance in Hungary) that do not have US clinicals built into them actually discount the tuition that you have to pay to the home program. What people usually need to pay is malpractice insurance. Again, this varies from clinical rotation site to site. More expensive is that unless you have a place to stay near the clinical site, you'll be shelling out money for travel, food and shelter.

Malpractice costs are high for sure in the USA. but, how are students financing housing costs, etc. especially since short-term leases (12 weeks per rotation) is more costly than long-term leases (12 months) assuming that i will move from one hospital to another for rotations?

it sounds like New York or Chicago and other cities with high cost of living are not the ideal places for poor folk like me to do thier clinicals? do we have any say or control over where we go? is this a sensitive topic?

does anyone know if our net cost increases or decreases during clinicals years? if someone have a personal experience with this that they don't mind sharing it woulb be very very helpful.

well, thanks everyone for your advice.
