One of Steph's posts reminded me to warn you of a mistake I made, so others don't make the same one. You don't have to have in all of your letters of recommendation to ERAS to have ERAS send out the main application.

I made the mistake of waiting til late because I didn't know that. I was warned only when the residency coordinator at a program I was applying to happened to ask why they hadn't received my application yet. (I was in her office talking to her about a different issue).

You can always send in letters later on when you get them, and ERAS will still transmit them to your programs. If this happens, just make sure your program downloads the letters -- that also happened to me. One of the programs said I didn't have in all of my letters although ERAS was saying they were transmitted. The programs sometimes only download once.

Of course none of this would happen if you got your letters early, but those attempts were unsuccessful by me. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

That's it. Good luck with the process.
