I have been hearing differing reports. Can anyone tell me how good is the broadband service on the island. Does it differ for private housing (off campus)?

The Broadband connection varies... Today it isn't bad (around 150kb/s to US) Have gotten 300+. However, there were days last week that there was no internet access on the campus. From the IT Dept:

Internet Access Problems (again!)
09/01/2004
Cable & Wireless (also sometimes affectionately referred to as Cable & Useless) has been having problems in Barbados. They lost two DS-3 circuits today and are still working on the problem.

We are currently having issues with packet loss and latency to both Grenada and St. Vincent.

Please also note that Internet access may be affected by the passing of Hurricane Frances through the Bahamas and Florida.

This message will be removed when the problem has been corrected and our connections are once again functioning normally.

Thanks for your patience.

Off-campus, you can get up to 1544 kb/s (for $700EC/month)
