I'm sure this sounds like such a summer-camp question, but approximately how much money (a.k.a. paper cash) should I plan on bringing to the island? Let me express what I'm thinking so someone intuitive can answer my question.
Okay, I've got to pay for my dorm/apartment up-front right?
1) Will they accept my check card?
One of the first things I'd like to do is register for a gym.
2) Will they accept my check card?
3a) Does the school charge anything for holding my forwarded
belongings and books?
3b) Will they accept my check card?
Now, after expressing my scattered thought process, could someone tell me about approximately how much cash money I'll need to bring to the island?

K man, i think i know what u will need. Yes that check card will work, you can use it at the bank to withdraw money, and most places take credit card anyway. About the gym, the school has one, i dont think you will need to (or can) get a subscription to a gym on the island. I am going to bring some cash with me as well as my card, just incase something happens, the ammount? not sure yet, I am trying to decide as well, see...the two banks on the island close around 3:30 in the afternoon, when we finish class...so it may be a little hectic getting there, even though some people do go to do banking during our 30 min lunch break, anyway i hope this helped. Has your mentor contacted you yet? He/She should be able to answer that for ya.
Anyway, you see the warning for SABA. lol. we have a nice strorm comming in. BRING IT . See ya later

I appreciate the info shadi. Bye-the-bye, that nasty Ohio weather didn't turn out to be so bad. I guess the tropical storms that have been making their way towards the inland on SC and NC have kept that yucky stuff at bay

I can't tell you exactly how much to bring with you, but....
The school doesn't take credit cards. Kenny (who runs the dorm) does - but they're building new dorms not associated with Kenny, those might not....
You can use the checkcard at the bank - RBTT doesn't charge anything, First Carribean does (not much, but it adds up when you take out a lot - it's a little over $1 for every $100, minimum withdrawal of $100). RBTT has a longer wait, but that's where most people go.
Grocery stores take cards, will even start a tab for you so you only have to pay once a month. Beware - the tab opens the door to buying a lot of stuff....
Island gyms - I don't think they take cards either. I actually only know of one gym other than the school's. With this island you may not even really need a gym - climb THe Ladder or Mt. Scenery for legs, do pushups and such for arms, and jog/walk the hills for cardio. Voila!
Um.... did I cover the questions? (I knwo I didn't cover how much cash to bring....let's say to start out with...a LOT...it's gonna take that much to bribe me to watch out for ya!!! heheheh :P )

Thanks ~S 8) , I told you I'm gonna bulk up before getting to the island and you're gonna hire me as your personal bodyguard from those mean'ole Canadians! (and from Patrik too) So maybe you'll be paying me- especially to stay away from you after I've eaten a garlic spiced piece of tuna (aka fish of choice on the island  )
Quick question about the workout thing. In reality, can you run on the village paths, or is the terrain too fierce? (only asking because you know about me and the endorphines)!

Hey C,
You can run the road. It's rough, and you may not get far at first, but it can be done and you'll build up the strength, stamina and leg muscles for it. There are students who run it every day. Actually one student (who's more like a machine than a human - he's a major marathoner AND a straight A student...dang him) ran from Cove Bay (airport) to Fort Bay (the boat dock - opposite side of the island) in about 45 minutes. OUCH!!!
Bring a CD/MP3 player with you to keep your mind off of the pain, sweat and sun. :P
