For all of us arriving on the island in less than a week, we should take notice of the weather.

As I understand it, Hurricane Frances is a level 3 hurricane as of 8.27.2004 and SXM and Saba may feel its effects on Tuesday, 8.31.2004. For those of you that are interested, Frances is projected to have landfall in the US by the following Friday barring a drastic change in course.

T.D. 7 and major Hurricane Frances
5:23 P.M. ET Fri.,Aug.27,2004
Tom Moore, Sr. Meteorologist, The Weather Channel
Hurricane Frances in the central Atlantic has strengthened into a category 3 hurricane with 115 mph winds. Frances is about 800 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, so it is still several days away from having any potential impact on land. Hurricane Frances is forecast to strengthen and slow down as it moves toward to West-Northwest. We will need to keep an eye on this storm over the next several days, as its track is very uncertain.

So, anyone know if Winair is going to screw me if i take 2 suitcases? I read the website and they said that it is 30 dollars for 88 Kilos, 173 lbs i think if i remember the conversion correctly. Will that be all i have to pay, and also, about these tropical storms, do students ever have trouble? I saw that the buildings were all concrete so I am not too worried.

Your luggage may not arrive on the island the day you do, but it will arrive. Don't worry. The $30 should be all you have to pay.
Most buildings on the island are built to withstand hurricanes (although some dork just built a wood house on the side of the mountain - not sure about that one holding up to the wind...). There are also hurricane shelters and protocols, which you'll get info on when you get to the island.

Thanks, just wondering...wait so how does winair work? Do they bring my luggage in a different plane? I visted saba and had 1 peice and it just came with me in the plane. I am assumming that 2 peices and a carry on are to much for that little 'cute' plane, hahaha, later

Shadi,
If your luggage doesn't arrive with you (which it may if you're lucky) it will come on a later flight, either that day or the next day or two. Someone from the school usually goes for a couple of days after the semester starts to pick up all of the students' luggage and bring it around, if you can't get to it yourself. You can also hitch a ride with another student who has a car to go get it.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for SABA.
I spoke to the airlines today, and they told me I will have a delay and change in flight plans. I am leaving for the KC airport tomorrow as was planned, but now I have the opportunity to maybe get things squared away. I would rather stay in a hotel for an extra day (VS) getting stuck in a busy airport terminal.
I don't know when I'll be able to write again, so I'll see you all on the rock when I see you. Good Luck. 8)
