Hey guys and gals,
Does anyone know what type of cell phones are used by the cell company. I am wondering if I can bring my unlocked GSM phone to the island and use a local gsm card.
A reply from anyone using a cell phone on the island would be much appreciated. If you tell me the make and model number of the phone that you are using now; I can work backwards and find out which network is being used.

I was told TDMA by the east caribbean cellular customer support, but I would double check with them to make sure.

can i (we) bring TDMA phones from Canada/US but some-how switch over from my local service provider to ECC (to prevent roaming charges): or should I expect to have to buy a new phone on the island?

That's what I'm doing. I bought a cheapo TDMA phone in the US and will program it once I get to the island. The website listed above has programming codes for the popular models and brands.

I have a cell phone here in the states, but I'm not that "with it" when it comes to cell phones....I know what a GSM phone is, but what's TDMA?

TDMA is the older cellular tech used before GSM became available. Basically all phones that do not have a sim card are TDMA unless they are ancient (would be analog).
