Here's the link to the California Medical Board's list of RECOGNIZED medical schools around the world. Recognized English-language programs in Eastern Europe are indicated in parentheses after the school's name. There are only three of these.

Here's the link to the medical schools that the California Board DISAPPROVED:

All other schools are UNRECOGNIZED by the California Medical Board. Students/graduates of these schools are NOT eligible to train in or become licensed in California. There should be NO Californians enrolled in the unrecognized medical schools who are thinking of coming back to California unless you are a gambler.

Although Mr. Hughson solicited the above response from me via e-mail, Mr. Hughson's playful sense of humor led him to add the words "unless you're a gambler" to the final sentence. These were not my words. I do not advise Californians to gamble with their futures by attending unrecognized foreign medical schools. California law prohibits any training completed in unrecognized or disapproved medical schools from being applied toward the requirements to train in or become licensed in California. If you want to train in or become licensed in California, attend California-recognized medical schools. Don't bet your future on admissions staffers who promise you that their new school will achieve recognition in California at your convenience. No one can control whether these schools will ever apply for recognition in California or - if they do - that they'll be granted recognition.
