I just noticed this and thought i would share it in case others havent noticed. For our first mini next semester we have 5 weeks of classes instead of the usual 4 weeks, but then it goes back to normal for the second mini, being only 4 weeks of classes. So the first mini will have an entire extra week of material tha usual. Any way just thought I would share.

Its just Ross trying to make more money by failing more people.

It's you that fails yourself out, not Ross....if you study your butt off (18 hours a day) and get help when you need it, then you should have no problems passing. It gets a lot tougher 3rd and 4th semester. 1st and 2nd semester is cake compared to 3rd and 4th because of the crazy curve from the students that weren't able to cut it these two early semesters.

Those that usually fail out are those who are a bunch of screwballs or those that have some or serious deficiency in the sciences (that's why you'd better take control of your education and get help when you need it).

Another advice is to do as well as you can on your first two minis. If you go into the finals (which can sometimes be worth 50% of your grade) borderline, you are going to be one stressed out student!! Save yourself the stress and anxiety by working hard your first two minis. That way, if you don't do well in your cumulative 50% final you got some space to wiggle with!!!

Sometimes your grades have a lot to do with playing the percentages. Put more effort in those exams worth more and less with those worth less (common sense).

One more bit of advice. If you have a lab exam, be sure you ace that exam. Those are usually easy points (except for the 3rd semester Path Lab exam this past semester (from what I've heard)) .

Hi guys,

FYI I want to give my $0.02.
By the way I am off the island, and did rather well academically.

My point: There is no such thing as studying 12 to 18 hours a day! (as RossMD and many others often mention in posts - no offense personally by the way RossMD)

1st off, its not the reality. Sitting down at a desk at 6am and stopping studies late in that day, saying you studied 12 or 18 hours is not true. Its really silly to study in that long a set since popular research has shown educators how concentration wanes *without* breaks every 50 minutes or so (tiny breaks at that, with a couple of large-breaks/day to take care of bodily/human needs as the day progresses).
Case in point, my collegues and I who are currently studying for Step 1 did the following to really try and get an idea of how much you are studying (if counting numbers is all that matters - which it did for us naively at the beginning of this study project).
Try this one day!
Take a pad and right down your start time. 6:05am for example.
Every time your gluteus moves away from studying (to daydream, to check email, to get coffee, to go to the washroom) treat it as a timecard of when you get up and start again.
At the end of your tedious study day (tedious because this time stamping is tough and slightly silly to do for more than one day), calculate the minutes and divide by 60 to figure out hours.
Based on our experience, I can guarantee you that it will be hard to break double digits more often than not, even though you did sit down for the majority of the day!
Just my $0.02 and I hope you keep this in mind, study healthily, and do well as many of us have! God bless!

thats the oldest excuse for failing there is. and totally bull. they actually make much more money by passing everyone. why? my 1st semester class had 20 fail. so by your theory, ross makes an extra 20times 9000 dollars, right? (ok, my class, that tuition was more like 8 grand, but lets use todays numbers)ok, only one problem with your poor excuse for math. 10 of those 20 transfer or just give up med school. so they actually came out $90,000 ahead by failing those 20,right? Wrong. they lose 10 people times 9 more semesters times $9000. thats $810,000 dollars they lose, less the 90 grand they made, so they are now $720,000 in the hole. now explain to me how Ross makes money off failing those 20 people again? Cause I am not getting it. The old "ross fails people on purpose to make more $" line is the biggest line of crapola that anyone could ever come up with. whats amazing is that there are fools out there who actually believe it.
