As theey increaase the class sizes Ross or Devry has to deal with the airline seatss available. If each class size was increased to 400 students it would mean 2400 students have to get off aand on the island in two weeks. Right now Americaan Eagle overbooks a flight for 60 by 20 seats. I am not sure what happens to the people that get bumped. In addition students will have to stay on the island during breaks or else come back a week after class starts unless they fix Mellville Hall airport so ut can handle larger planes and can operate after sundown.

unfortunately, AA does thinsg by the airline book. they average the number of filled seats over the course of a month. hence the mayhem at the end of and beginning of each semester. when i was a first, I paid an extar $100 to move my flight up to the day after my last final. thanks to multiple bumps, I actually got home the day after I would have if I had not changed my ticket. open tix, changed tix, and tix sold off isladn always get bumped first. my 4th semester,(over a year after adding the first large class) AA finally realised soemthingwas going on, and added an extra flight each day during the week at the end of school. unsure of they continue this policy now, as this was dec of 2000. but yes, if Ross increases numbers, the airlines will ahve to also, but dont expect it to happen right away.

i thought i heard melville hall had already installed the runway lights for night landings? considering it got dark around 6pm over there, they could really use those lights to get at least two more flights in per day, and make a lot more people happier and less stressed out...i remember how stressful it was just to travel to and from that damn island.

i still read an online news page form my old home away form civilization, and they are discussing theupgrades now, and some union is screaming because they wont be getting any work outof it. that will probably hold up the work again.

I left on the 21st and there was some people from the 8am flight that got bumped and were sitting at the airport. I'm not sure what happen to them. What's sad was there was 2 empty seats that I saw for the 2:10 flight.

i was scheduled out of jurasic park on the 205pm today....well, to make a long story short, after spending 7 hours in the lovely sauna called melville hall.....they cancelled our flight!!!! The eagle flew in and flew out leaving 61 of us stranded here. To top it off...all the flgts this week are sold out and as of right now we still haven't heard a single word from that USELESS airline. I have flown to and from here 5 times and only ONCE did the flight go off with out a hitch. American could give 2 sh1ts about us...they treated us like crap today. Lie after lie. Apparently, the story we got is that they didn't have enough fuel to get us back to san juan. I'm a pilot so i know how the weight and balance issues are.....if they have 10,000lbs of people and bags then they can only carry a certain fuel load in order to keep the weight and balance within safe operating limits...so they figure they will just get fuel at the destination (in this case..Dumpinica) but guess what... NO FUEL ON THE ISLAND!!! This was supposed to be my last day here...but no....who knows now....and to top this wonderful day off....THE POWER WENT OUT ten minutes ago...so as i sit here waiting for my battery to die, i thought i would let you know about our lovely Eagle flight. UNREAL. what was supposed to be the most celebrated day for many of us (leaving this god forsaken place) turned out to be our worst. Thanks to american airlines... :x  :x

I know those two people to whom you are referring as I myself left on the 21st. From what they (those two people) told me, AA sent them to Barbados where they then got to the states. Back to the airport issue, maybe it would be a good idea for a group of students to charter an 727. That plane can fit about 2x the people that the ATRs use and would make a lot more people less grumpy come the time to go home.

I think the reason jet engines don't fly into dominica is that the run way can't support larger planes. So the ATR or smaller is all it can handle.

The largest plane that melville hall can handle is a 727. They land them every week to drop off packages for amerijet.

As far as I know Amerijet is a modified millitary plane, and the guy who flies it is a retired Airman. It requires a darm good skill to land anything in this f-n place.

I just left there on 8/24, and I saw NO lights on the airstrip at Mellville Hall. I was told if you are flying American that if you don't want to be bumped it is necessary to arrive at the airport no later than 3 hours prior to your intended take off. I came and went via Liat this time, and everyone told me that I was safe getting there only 1 hour prior to take-off, and it worked. I saw no Liat customers get bumped. Perhaps if more people start using Caribbean Star, Liat, and other alternatives, American Airlines wouldn't be so brassy.

I studied Canefield while I was there, and I don't think you could pay me to land or take off from it. It is basically a brick station with a short paved alley running parallel to the sea. Only tiny props seem to take off and land from there.

the contrcact was JUST awarded to a construction company on the 19th. so i wouldnt expect any work to even begin on lights for at least another year.

Dru:

I thought that Liat and the other carribean airlines allowed less total luggage and carry-on luggage then American Eagle. Again as I indicated. More studentrs at ROss means either more flights scheduled or more kids getting bumped.
