I have been using INC cards to call my husband on the island. For $5 you get 43 minutes to call from New Jersey/Pennsylvania. I do however, believe that they make one for every state because my mom had actually found a few NY INC cards. It has been the best deal that I have found so far.
If not, I also have a long distance carrier deal with Verizon where I get a rate of .50 a minute for $4 a month. Calling cards are still a better deal because the phone bills add up rather QUICKLY!! Almost fell over when I got my first bill.
Hope this helps :D

I call my son ATT for $.41 a minute from New Jersey. No monthy charge but $19.95 mimimum. I once used Dialpad but found difficulty going through third party providers with bad connections. Never tried the calling cards because they also go require the third party connection.

Reliablecom.com has cheap calling cards - for $5 you can call to Dominica (mobile) for approx 37 minutes, for landlines you can talk approx 57 ($5)minutes. The only thing about these cards it is best to use them up in one seating. If you hand up without using the whole card you will be deducted 7 minutes or so
