tropical shipping should provide them to you. if they say they do not, the person you are talkign to MAY be wrong...this was my experience with tropical once...just ask a higher-up to make sure that the facility doesnt sell barrels.

I was told by Tropical shipping in NJ, that you do not need barrels.
You could use, boxes, luggage, or whatever you want. Their prices are based on square footage.

How much approximately are you going to ship and what are you shipping? I am trying to figure out how much it is going to cost to send a barrell and how long it would take to get there so that my stuff is there not long after I arrive. Have any idea?

I shipped two 75 gallon barrels out of Miami. They sold the Barrels to me on site they were 20 dollars each. Locks were 50 cents and shipping was 75 dollars each. My total cost, tax and all was around $211 dollars. The people were very helpful. You can ship any thing i was just told the rate on the barrels was better and it worked for me. I didn't have to wory about boxes breaking etc. They will hold your barrels for two weeks if you ask for free, it only takes a week out of Miami for them to get to the Rock. Mine should of got there yesterday. I had a Taxi driver down on the island pick them up for me. I just sent them care of him. There are several people on the island that pick up packages for students and the school. You can get their names from your student advisor.:)

i shipped two barrels, one with laparkan and one with tropical. both provided barrels for around 15-20 bucks. shipped one barrel out of laparkan from Toronto and it took like two-three weeks i think. miami took about a week. i picked up one barrel myself, and was raped on the "fees" that went straight to some idiot customs guy's pocket. The second barrel i had picked up by a local driver, "fees" totalled only 40 EC or so. Overall, the payment to the taxi guy and fees were less than the customs fee alone for the first guy, and you STILL have to pay the driver to take you to roseau.

better to have someone pick it up...i asked havis i believe. i stayed at home, studied, and in the afternoon he arrived with the barrel. when i went to pick it up myself, it took the whole damn day.

good luck

I called tropical yesterday and they said it would be about $170 for 27 cubic feet but since I live in TX they would have to add a couple hundred dollars to that to get it to Miami? Anyone else from TX running into the same problem?

Right, i got a quote from UPS that was around 150$ to ship to miami, and then from miami to the island is another extra cost. Might as well pay for luggage

best thing to do is when you're home on break from dumbinica, get your next ticket back to the island so that you leave a day or two earlier. Then, book your ticket so you connect thru miami to dumbinica.

that way, on your connection via miami (some of the cheaper ones actually make you stay overnight in miami, which is perfect) you rent the cheapest box of a car (some are as low as 12 bucks/day), head over to Wal-Mart supercenter, buy away, then head to tropical with your stuff. Pack up the barrel, pay, and have it sent on its way. Next day, return ur car, and fly to dumbinica. you will see your barrel a few weeks later, and you wont have to worry about ground shipping to miami to have a barrel set sail.
