Atending EE 6yr medical programs, preparing for USMLE step 1

Hey!
Any advice on how to prepare for USMLE Step 1 while in EE schools? Which books to get, when to take the exam etc. Also, are there "studyrings" etc. where students gather and help each other out with this kind of thing? (I'm starting my first semester at DOTE in September) All info is greatly appreciated!!

Re: books. The 'common wisdom' I've garnered from this site and others is:

First Aid (a MUST - process overview, exam structure, high yield topics etc.)
Goljan pathology
Board Review Series- BRS (for content review - all subjects available)
Blackwells clinical vignettes (for clinical linkage)
Board simulator cd (for questions & explanations)
Kaplan Web Prep (questions & explanations)

Study the high yield content, do lots of questions, do lots of simulated exams - to build 'staying power' (time yourself).
