Hello,
when we bring some traveler's checks in US dollar, would the local bank accept American Express Traveler's Cheques?
or, it has to be VISA and/or MASTER Card ones?
how long does it take to clear after we open a local bank acct?
do we need any signature from one of the Ross Univ Deans?
if we do not open a local bank acct, can we still have those traveler's checks cashed by the Campus Bank?
please help...thank you in advance...

They're also a good idea because of the ease of replacement if they are accidentally lost

The best thing to do is get adebit card at a US bank, fund the account and draw the money. The bank on campus charges a percent to do this transaction but it is an easy aand quick way to get funds. The inteesting thing is that the bank in Domicica pays a higher rate of interest on its account then the banks in the US. It is easy to use the atm card supplied in Dominica to withdraw funds in EC.

Traveler's cheques are as good as cash once they're signed, so there's no delay in clearing the bank to access the money, but it'll take a few days to get your atm card printed, so you might want to cash some directly into ec.
Might wasnt to get the ones in the largest denominations you can find because you have to stand there and sign all the cheques in front of the teller and if your signiture starts to not look like the original (after signing 40 cheques or so), you have to sign them again.
good luck,

Cheapest route is a personal check,
Bring down enough money in travelers checks to get started then write yourself a personal check for the rest of the money that you will need and put it in your NCB account. Takes 6 weeks to clear but costs 5 EC or some other paltry sum to do instead of a percentage.
