ok now that i have your attention heres my pitch:

the pre school for the kids doesn't get cash from the school anymore just a rent free building so the parents pay the brunt of teacher salaries and supplies and the spouses club works their collective arses off fund raising.

i am planning on "surprising them" with a donation from my own pocket to help them with supplies this term and was wondering if anyone is willing to part with a $5 $10 or $20 bill to help get supplies for the kids.

if you are interested either hunt me down in the hall or email me and we can use paypal or something.

thanks.

yes rrod is playing nice and micro isn't posting truly there is more wrong with the world than just hell freezing over. i expect the horsemen of the apocalypse to begin spreading myrth soon....peace in palestine, and iraq actually embracing democracy without massive chaos GW to be announced as a late rhoades scholar and kerry to buy a personality......

Did you mean the pre school or the elementary school??? Regardless, both collectively "work their arses off" to fundraise for the students. :-sport

The point to person for the the elementary school is Melody and the point person for the preschool is Katie.

I'm sure both groups would be more than happy to receive support from anyone "ready willing and able". :D

I just want to kindly clear up a misunderstanding in the former statements. It's not the "Pre-School" not getting funding from the school any longer, (although there is a need for pre-school). It's the ELEMENTARY school that is no longer getting funding from the University! Where many of us see a need for children to attend pre-school for many reasons, it is NOT a manditory school! Our elementary age children HAVE to be in school!!! This is a very important age for them to be getting the best education possible. Reading and Mathmatics foundations are built on this level of education. I think that somewhere there has been a mis-communication that Pre-school and Elementary has anything to do with each other. It's just been since last semester when a few parents came up with having a "pre-school" that would be convienient for other mothers that the "pre-school" has evolved. Therefore it has NEVER had any supplementation from the University and is pretty much as any "daycare/learning center" at home, you pay to have your children attend! Elementary age children should definately be FIRST priority in the education system. And this is where the misinformed information is stated.

If you want to donate to Pre-School contact Katie. If you want to donate to the Elementary contact Melody (or Adrianne or Amy G., Melody will be off island for a month).

Just wanted to clear some things up.....

Another misunderstanding listed in rrod's original post is the issue of funding. The Spouse's Club has fundraisers that partially go towards the Preschool, while the parents are soley responsible for their own fundraisers for the Elementary school since AUC stopped their financial assistance.

Yes, Grace is correct. Only one fundraiser a semester goes toward the preschool (a very small portion of our overall earnings). We have other areas to fund as well, and we have made tuition the bare minimum.. just to pay for a teacher. So we've created a job opportunity and given children a chance to socialize in a learning environment. We feel this is a good cause, but do not need donations as the elementary school does.

To say the Spouse Club is not involved with the elementary school is misleading. We are all very concerned about the education of these kids that we have all come to know and love, and wish to help the parents who happen to be members of the Spouse Club and our close friends. The executive committee of the Spouse Club has offered our assistance on numerous occations, and in the beginning when the Tiens decided to stop funding the elem school, the Dean suggested that the Spouse Club run the elementary school. I worked hard to set up meetings with the Dean and make sure that the school not be closed down. The parents decided that they wanted to run it on their own to avoid any conflict of interests. They are doing a fabulous job of raising money, and the Spouse Club is continuing to help by raising money for them through our Car Lease Program (thanks to dtanita).

What is most important is that rrod was kind enough to bring it to our attention that he wanted to help fundraise for the elementary school... thank you rrod!! I knew there was a teddy bear under that rough exterior!!

The Spouse Club continues to wish the elem school good luck in their efforts to raise money! And we'd also like to say that the teachers are doing a wonderful job!! Have a great upcoming semester!

What's the Car Lease Program?

The Spouse's Club is scheduled to be at orientation in lecture hall #4. You can ask them then! I don't know much about it, but I understand it's pretty competitive with some of the other businesses on island that lease cars to students...plus it goes for a good cause!

Aloha,

Yes, thanks Jon.. we will be there for orientation with contracts to about 10 cars. First come first serve. I don't have the contracts yet, but if you are interested then come see me during orientation.. I'll be there Saturday. If you want more details sooner, I'm going to post the details in a couple days when I solidify the details with the owner of the cars. Until then, i can always be reached at aucspouse@hotmail.com
