We always go to The Mailbox and Fed Ex from there...I believe it is a little cheaper w/ them (b/c of being a student) than from the actual Fed Ex office. It has been covered on here before on why students prefer one over the other. As far as I know, note services does not send any mail out. I will say that when you are at The Mailbox, bring your passport and let them know you are sending your check and if it is over $10,000 you will want to fill out a US Custom's form claiming this (which is why you need your passport, for your passport number). This should prevent there being any delays or holds from Customs since you are claiming the check.

Editied to add that with the small discount for being a student, Fed Exing your check (or any document-sized item) from The Mailbox used to be right around $32, not sure if they raised the prices.

The Mailbox and the Fed Ex office are both in Simpson Bay. The Mailbox is on the same side of the bridge as the school, across from Pizza Hut (really can't miss it) and the Fed Ex office is on the other side of the bridge, just down from the area where Simpson Bay Pharmacy/Scotia Bank is. It is between that area and the Domino's Pizza a little off the main road.

The only things we spoiled people would consider walking distance would be:
The casino
BB's BBQ
The restaurants near the Casino( French food, Italian, and something else(can't remember)).
Citrus "Market"-salads, sandwiches, drinks, milk, coffee, magazines, but not much else
Szucheuan Chinese restaurant
Laundry
Levator's dorm.

Since it is still "off season" and that you are a student, you should be able to get a car for $20-25/day from them. Usually there is a deposit of somesort and I know with them, the amount depends on how many days you rent from them...at least that is how it worked for us. Most other car rental places (this is coming from friends) have wanted $500 deposit regardless of the number of days.

Hi!
I know that if our checks are more than $10,000 we can have the school split them into 2 checks. Can I send the two checks together in one package by Fed Ex so the total would be more than $10K or do I have to send them separately?

Thanks

Yep. Separate is best. I beleive it may not even be legal to fedex more than $10,000. When you fedex your check back to the states, just mark on the airbill that it's less than 1 lb. and be sure you mark "document" on on the form...

do you know when we need to tell them to separate the checks. do we tell them now or is it fine to tell them at registration?

I have no clue.
But I figured that if they take out the tuition, fees, and dorm rent for the next 4 months then I will get less than $10K. So I'm not worried anymore.

at registration, you can tell them to separate your refund checks and also tell them if you want local checks to deposit in a bank on st. maarten or foreign checks to mail back home.
