View Full Version : An idea for our pres- thinking ahead to roadblocks..

I just drove a few local cops and they all seemed awake, so naturally I was reminded of the last time I saw several of them awake... I'm speaking of course of the roadblocks where a bunch of students always get handed the $500 tickets...

Anyhow- I was thinking, perhaps Mr Pres could put together some way to warn everyone when this was happening. Perhaps give out cards with the number for noteservice and have people call in when there is a roadblock. Then someone could run out and put a sign on the front gate or something..

Just an idea.

As a second issue- can we get rid of that outragous "no porn in the computer lab' rule too?...

The roadblocks are surely ridiculous! :x It would be great if we could come up with a system, such as the one mentioned by beach bum, in order to keep students from getting so many stupid tickets.

I have never heard of someone getting a speeding ticket here.

The tickets are usually for not having the correct sticker on your car, your lights not working, or whatever they feel like. The police seems to target students, setting up roadblocks along the golf course. They do a pretty good job of hiding behind corners and flagging you to the side of the road. Once you've been here a while, you will figure out where to slowly proceed around the corners to ensure there are no roadblocks in place. Some people got their cars impounded for not having the current road tax sticker. Others have had to even write their own tickets because the policeman couldn't write. It's quite ridiculous if I say so myself! They will pull you over and check your paperwork as well as have you flash your lights, etc. to determine whether or not they work. They seem to find almost anything to give you a ticket for. The worst part about it is that you know for darn sure the money isn't going into the roads or for a decent police force. :x

i was with a friend and we drove through it... surprisingly they did not stop us... usually they do. if i was driving, i would have been in trouble because i dont have the correct stickers. i watch out for the roadblocks and if i see one, i turn around.

police.... thats too much of a word to describe the "police" on this island

I found that a cold beer could get you anywhere on the island.

"My, you guys look hot...I happen to have a few cold Red Stripes in the back...or would you prefer a Vita-Malt?"

Bribery will get you everywhere. G

do you have to pay the ticket the moment it is issued?.....now that would suck.....

Come on, this part can't be true!

I've been pulled over three times, twice by school and once by cost-u-less. All three times the police have done the exact same thing:

1) Check my paperwork for the car.
2) Check my drivers license
(I have a CA liscense and have not been asked or hasseled about it yet)
3) Make sure the following parts of my car are working
Horn
Right Blinker
Left Blinker
Windshieldwipers
Engine (they ask me to step on the gas)

Once they see that everything is working, they let me on my way. Other than the time inconvenience it hasn't bothered me too much.

If everything is in order it should'nt be an issue. :D

You SORT OF do have to pay for the ticket them and there, because they take you car until you pay. I know of at least one spouce who had to wait for a taxi then and there.

but alas... the whole road block thing was really just a obvious segway into the porn issue... Lets get back to that issue...

All I know is that my husband heard that from the SGA presidential address to his class when they first arrived on the island. Who knows if it's really true, but it wouldn't surprise me!
