Having gone through most of the posts related to BRS books/shelf exams...I just wanted to confirm if the following books are all required. Are there any that you (as a Sem 1 Ross student), didn't find helpful? Are there any other Board review books you would reccomend for the exams instead?
Here they are,
High yield Embro
Lippincott Biochem
BRS Cell bio & Histo
Pretest Histo/cell bio
Pretest biochem/genetic
Am I missing anything?
Thanks in advance

All of those books are good. Never used HY embryology though. Packets are sufficient for that class. If you can do the questions in pretest histo and biochem by the end of the semester, then the shelf will be pretty easy. Lippencott's is good too, I used that book alot to clarify things when I didn't understand it in meisenbergs.

I would stay away from BRS for histo and biochem. There seem to be a lot of mistakes in those. Anyways, Junquera for histo is great and has relevant pics for shelf etc. Lippincott BC is great too because it takes concepts and puts them in a simplified form. I am preferential to the LANGE series books and would recommend that for BC as well. (By the way, Junquera is the LANGE series for histo). Good luck!

you don't really have the time to keep up with text books. i used them 1st semester and got C+. i switched to high yields and BRS and class handouts for the rest of the time and got an even split of A's and B's for the next three semesters. for first I would say BRS for histo, handouts for biochem (although high yield is also really good), high yield for embryo. if you don't believe me because everyone scares you into thinking that you need textbooks, and they will, then use the texts for the first mini. afterwords leaf through the review books and see if there were any questions that aren't covered in the books. the format takes some getting used to, but after that you won't want anything else. get first aid and use it for all of your classes. read the first section on how to prepare for the step before you start. it has a lot of good tips for things that you should be doing off the bat. i just took the step and it is golden.
