Anyone interested in a lifting and/or running partner starting in September? It will be a great way to kill the stress of continous studying... :)

I wish I were starting in Sept. I love running and lifting. Dououoh. Maybe the schedules of first and second semester won't be too different and we could run and workout together. You'll have a heads-up on me though because you'll be accustomed to the hills and mountain running. I guess I should start cross-training now for those babies. Which reminds me- I need a new pair of tennies.
Don't forget about me in January. I'll be the funny talking southerner in the crowd (I'm sure I'll stand out ya know  )!

Hey, i dont run often cause i have problems with my knees, but i do lift weights and I was actully looking for a parter to spot. I saw the gym, it is really nice actully. They told me it was small but it 2 times the size of the gym at my apt complex. It has everything, and i would not suggest running on those hills, but some people do.
If i tried running up a 90 incline i would roll back down, haha, alright, bye

Classic, I'll be ready for you. I read in earlier posts how you said you can run circles around most anyone.
Shadi, lifting will allow us to kill that extra time on the island...

Circles?? I'm slow so you'll have me licked (not literally I hope or else I may need a new running mate) when we run- think genetics... granny pace crossed with a slug  I hope I don't leave a trail like a slug though... that's sorta gross!

Hey all, i think we should get a group of 5-6 people to work out on certain days, kinda like a study/work out group. Staying in shape will keep are circulation going and our grades up, any takers? We got 3 already ;O)

Shadi, Classic, FerrariJP...
Is it too late to include me...yes, count me in in that exercise group! I shall be busy working out in that gym too, so it would be a good idea to team up and discuss some histo/anatomy as we work out! As for gliding on the hills, well, let's see, we may have to "carry" Classic along as she leaves her trail behind like a slug (We have to be our sister's keepers, you know!) Classic, do not worry, a journey of a 1000 steps begins with 1 little step! So you are in the right company, okay!

Any places similar to a GNC on the island carrying basic supplements? If not there is always St. Maarten.

Ferrari,
WE have a G&C, but it's not the same. :P You can Get a few things at JRs, but it's best to bring them with you or order it and have it shipped.

"order and have it shipped"..... To what address (how long to get to the island)... directly to a shipping company (which one)...
Me.

Not sure exactly what supplements you need, but you can find some stuff at JR's and at Big Rock. As far as finding partners, I have a couple of guys who beat on my door everyday they go to the gym - I've actually gone a few times. As far as shipping, I suppose the common thing to do is buy stuff on-line (does GNC have a website?) and have it shipped to a US mail-drop that will ship it down here (there's a company on island that provides such a service). It usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to get stuff this way. The regular mail takes anywhere from 10 days (from Europe) to about 8 weeks (from the US).
You can get things from the US in about 3 days if you FedEx it (about $35US for a small envelope).
At least that's been my experience.
Best of Luck!

I don't think I'll be dragging big tubs of protein powder with my luggage, so I just decided to eat a lot of high protein foods, e.g. tofu, fish, eggs, etc. Does the island carry protein supplements? Doesn't really matter, I expect to lose some muscle mass.

I'm with SID and Ferri on this one as well. My knee has been really sore as of late and I've only been able to run 4-6 mi every other day  (I miss my adrenaline rush.) To beat it all, my gym has been closed over the past two weeks and my arm flab is falling to the ground (people would think it was hair if it were dark  )!
Okay, sorry for complaining- gonna bug SID (the new aunt) now!
