Hey I used the search function and I see that the text for this year is Voet and Voet I used this text for Biochem last year as an undergrad and I am hoping it is the same text and I can use it again do any of you know what edition they are using this year? I have not received a book list from MEIO so I have no idea. Thanks

AHHHHH, the search feature failed.

The textbook is Lippincott's Biochemistry by Champe and Harvey. Voet and Voet is the textbook I like. I would get the Lippincott's if I were you as it is a good medical biochemistry textbook. As seeing you already read the Voet and Voet, you should have no problem with the medical biochemistry class here. (my 2 cents)

If you want, bring Voet and Voet down, if not, then just borrow it from the library. The one they have is the blue/black one(I can't remember what molecule was on the cover though).

i was under the strong impression that the required text for biochem is Lippincott's ilustrated reviews of Biochemistry by Champe and Harvey.

never heard about a change..... :?

lippincott's illustrated reviews biochemistry...required

textbook of biochemistry....optional...

those were the books listed for biochem on the order form for the aug class of 04....

And please don't buy that optional biochem book. It's horrible, probably the worst biochem book ever written. I wrote a list of biochem books reviews somewhere... I think it was along with Speros' Anatomy book recommendation list.

i guess i should of asked before spending the 40 bucks on the book.....i always end up buying the books that are not useful.....hmm maybe i can use it to protect my head when the huricanne comes roaring through jacksonville in the morining.....it is hard cover and pretty darn thick....

i will pass i have enough useless books........with my useless biochem book and my wonderfully written 4 dollar copy of hist of med....i think i can manage designing a nice book helment for my head to protect me from the hurricane.....

Yeah but my embryo book has a softer cover and a picture of a fetus in the front.

Ok, how about I make the fetus one of those anti-hurricane fetuses? deal?

skipper,

let me explain to be fair... first of all thats my opinion; Devlin is a text that is written for people studying biochem in any other setting except med school; way too long and takes too much time to read.. i did fine with lippincott's and the BRS for biochem. also, i could not sell it afterwards... ended giving it away...

ps. it wont be your first useless book... i have a big collection.. most of whcih i sell to people like microphage......blahahahaha

hmm now that might sound interesting....well you throw in ur copy of hist of med.....never know when i will need more hardcover books.....

skipper,

ps i guess this pointless conversation is just adding to your total number of post, microphage.....lol....hell it is helping my numbers.....i now only need about 1700 more post to catch up to you....

I disagree. none of the biochem labs where I worked at had Devlin's on their shelf. I flipped through it and would not even pay a beer for it(sorry Skipper).

Why am I posting stupid arguments? Because I don't wanna study neuro....

Well, if having read Voet and Voet will be an asset to med school level biochem.. I hope a gigantic waste-of-time hounours degree in biochemistry will be of SOME use to me.

That's right... I'm bitter... oh, and I have that black and blue dinosaur of a text, commonly known as Biochemistry, by Voet and Voet.

Though I can't remember what the molecule on the front it... I think that textbook is currently in the basement somewhere....

I know microphage hates it, but then again, I don't have the scholastic aptitude that he possesses.

Oh come on, it was a good book. Didn't you enjoy the chapter on hemoglobin where they talked about the exact trajectory that the beta chain will bend? What school are you from? Canadian school?(you spelled honors as "honours."

So you'll be bored in biochem, bring an Anatomy book to read or something. Or would you like to be a molecular embryologist and buy my Embryo book?

This is a hefty string of messages I'm adding to.

Yes, Lippincott is the only text you'll need. They might have a new edition out for the fall semester.
The Devlin is actually an awesome resource, but use it only to satisfy your own curiosity about specific questions you have. DO NOT BUY IT because the library already has over a dozen copies that NEVER get used. Everything you need to know for exams beyond Lippencott is provided by the profs. Trying to study out of the Devlin would be suicidal. Too much information.
