it is getting pretty big.......

i am not really use to this huricanne stuff....have only been in jax for 4 years......grew up in the nice, cold, and snow filled chicago.....so that is why i am sort of paying extra attention to it.......

skipper,

i have experienced a few but kinda the way you will... being the later location. once they hit land, they weaken so it should be just lots of wind and rain by the time it reaches jax. the ones i have experienced always seemed to turn at the last minute due to the water currents right of the coast...but being right there, on an island of the coast of the GA/FL border we always felt it...

i just saw the satelite view... big sucker...

my god... my fiance left for orlando last thursday to make a class reunion for this weekend. needless to say, she didnt expect to go through a hurricane. my family there says hundreds of trees down with 75 mph winds sustained during the night. there was even a 105 mph gust. this is unbelievable since orlando is 100 miles away from landfall.

now im a little scared about the REAL monsters that can come here with sustained winds of 140 mph. ouch..... ill definetely leave my place and camp at AUC. i guess i wont have to worry about those until sept/oct.

dont want to cause alarm for florida, but i think it would be prudent to mention that this tropical depression # 5 is forcasted to be a cat 2 storm and just south of cuba at the end of next week. that tracks that i looked at have it curving up and around just like charley did because of another trough that will be in the gulf again. YIKES!!!!!

these troughs are unbelievable because they usually NEVER make it so far south. now they are doing it one after another.

is it global warming....... like another scenario of "day after tommorrow"?....

well... if one comes this way (knock on wood), you can stay in maho and i wiil be in the dorms with the shatter proof windows. from what i am reading on cnn, the damage in florida is as bad as hurricane hugo.. several deaths so far.... jax, georgia and even south carolina are really lucky.

Nope, sorry; no pets allowed. they must stay outside and enjoy the fresh, turbulent breeze.

Perhaps turbulence is not a necessity...we could put all pets out in the middle of the open grassy area by the basketball courts...then they could enjoy laminar flow! 8)

It really depends on a few things: where you will be flying from, if you have any layovers, and the direction Earl takes.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT05/refresh/AL0504W5+GIF/150253W5.gif

According to this map taken from the National Hurricane Center, it shows their prediction for the next five days, which takes you to Wed. At this point it doesn't look like it would but it all depends. A couple of weeks ago, Tropical Depression 2 came by and they were estimating it would develop into Hurricane Bonnie which it obviously did not do. It became very unorganized and was downgraded to a Tropical Storm. We only got a little bit of higher-than-normal winds, dark clouds, and rain.

It could. I had the displeasure if surviving Luis. That was a lovely category 5 breeze that caused me to defer my first semester. You are better off not being there for a hurricaine. The category 1's are fun. Just a ton of rain and an excuse to have a party. Anything more than that, and it just sucks. G

Sorry to call you on this rocky, but with you being from S'port i am not too sure of how many Cat 3s adn 4s you have actually experienced.

By the time the storm gets up there its just a little-o tropical depression. When you get down here i will show you the pics of what Lillie did to my hometown a few years ago, as bad as the damage was it was still a damn good party!!!! :D :D :D

As for the food and beer and LSU ball games, i will be cooking and drinking at my place, perhaps i can trade you some deer sausage and crawfish that i have here for some ducks if you bring them!!!!!

Later,
