what do you think is the least amount of transfer time necessary at MIA to be sure that suitcases will be appropriately transferred to the next flight?

any horror stories to share?

I was told that if you are using the same airline then it is about an hr, if you are using two different airlines then you need at least 150 mins. I booked a flight and was cancel because i only i had 1 hr and 19 mins of delay, and therefore they cannot booked me that flight. but check around and see.

If you are travelling on the same airline then you shouldn't worry about anything, they will automatically transfer all your stuff themselves, but if you purchased the tickets separately, like I bought from NYC to Fort Lauderdale on Jetblue and from Fort Lauderdale I am flying on Cayman Airways, then I'd give at least 2 hours in between.
It takes about 30 mins to get the bags off the plane, and if the other airline is located at a different terminal, then you gotta carry all that stuff, so keep it all in mind.

Gebbils:

When flying one has to also consider all the delays which could result in missing connecting flights or luggage winding up on future connecting planes. Better to wait several hours in an airport for conneccting flights then to miss your flight.

if you are traveling on the same airline from your origin to Cayman, dont even worry about it. it will be really fast. at Ft Laud one time i had to transfer from American to Cayman, and i only had one hr. i made it to the gate in 25mins.

Hello,

Miami airport is not the best choice ever. I would recommend a minimum of 2h30mn to transfer in peace and quiet.
I have lots of personal horror stories about MIA airport.
