I'm having a situation where it's pretty difficult for me to squeeze the genetics course into my schedule. Is this class really helpful for med school?

Does it help once you're already in med school, or do admissions counselors really value it?

DOnt stress on fitting in Genetics. College genetics is very detailed and probably overkill for med school. You will encounter genetic diseases but it will be in the contex of pathophysiology and minute details of genetics will just be too much for med school.

I learned enough about genetics in my Bio I and II courses (God Bless Dr. Blaustein!) to understand my Genetics course in Med School.

Work hard and don't worry.

Best of Luck!

i took tons of genetics, loved genetics in undergrad...my genetics course sucked at med school, prob the worst department we had. i had such a bad time dealing with them that it pretty much ruined genetics for me...but, it is not that difficult a subject, and i would not worry too much about it. better to get a handle on biochemistry, in my opinion.

good luck!

as i was a non-science major in uni, i took a Human Genetics course for non-science students. It was very interesting, in depth for a course for 'non-science' students, and it helped me enormously for my entrance exams at Charles - that bio section was at least 1/3 pure genetics, the rest was a big mish-mash!

i took it purely out of interest, before i ever thought of applying to medicine so i really was only interested in human genetics. i had some gen chem courses behind me and not much bio.

it sounds like you're not thoroughly enjoying it. as neil suggested, biochem might be a better help, not that i took it or anything.
